As always, my last tweet of the year - rising carbon dioxide (CO₂)... There is no deadline. Any reduction in emissions will reduce future climate warming. I am hopeful! Thank you all for following! 🙂 + Visualization/info by @gcarbonproject: https://t.co/SAMabQQGbF

The human species, led by white Europeans and Euro-Americans, has been on a 500-year-long planet wide rampage of conquering, plundering, looting, exploiting and polluting the Earth—as well as killing the indigenous communities that stood in the way. But the game is up. The

✊ Taiwan's democracy is not dead, citizens continues to defend it! Over 50,000 Taiwanese reject this draft which violates procedural justice, lacks substantive discussion, disrupts the separation of powers under the Constitution, and could potentially harm people's rights.

Breaking News! March came in at 1.68°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, making it the 10th consecutive month at an all time recorded high, and the 9th consecutive month breaking the Paris limit of 1.5°C.

The Earth is not reflecting short-wave radiation into space the way it used to just a few years ago. This means a larger percentage of incoming solar is directly heating the planet, with the heat trapped by record GHGs. This is a huge f&%king problem for life on this planet.

Its now official: 2023 was the warmest year on record in the JRA-55 dataset, at 1.43C above preindustrial levels. It beat the prior record set in 2016 by 0.14C, and continues a rapid warming trend thats seen global temperatures rise around 1C since 1970.

To achieve energy & climate goals, the world needs to add or replace 80 million kilometres of power lines by 2040. That’s the size of the entire global grid built over the past 100 years and enough to wrap around the Earth roughly 2,000 times. More 👉 https://t.co/6bMp6pDxiC

ANALYSIS: what impact will the #COP28 announcements make on closing the emissions gap? Few of them will do so meaningfully. Many either lack the ambition, clarity, coverage or accountability needed to make a difference /🧵 [from the *actual* CAT] https://t.co/63UCjAnW35

Of the total emissions savings that cld be achieved: * around a quarter already in govt NDCs/overlap w Glasgow * a quarter additional, achievable * and about half are unlikely to be achieved unless the initiative is improved.

It would take 343 years for Adnoc to capture the emissions it will produce in the next six years. Carbon capture is a misleading distraction from the urgent need to reduce #fossilfuel production and #emissions. #COP28 #EndFossilFuels
