Aerial observers from the Center for Coastal Studies observed a North Atlantic right whale mother with her calf just north of Marshfield yesterday. This is the first such sighting of a right whale calf in Massachusetts waters in the 2024 season.

CCS Marine Fisheries, w assistance fm @AmeriCorpsCC, monitors invasive green crabs at Salt Pond, Eastham. 2 wks ago found less common Asian shore crab, Hemigrapsus sanguineus. Native to W. Pacific, they begin as free-floating larvae that can travel gt distances.

As the summer draws to a close, Seascape Ecologist Bryan Legare, Manager of the Center’s Shark Ecology Research Program, has been busy collecting the 60 acoustic receivers used to track the whereabouts of white sharks near the beaches of Cape Cod.
