I spoke w/ Don Monson in June about coaching the 81-82 Vandals: "My biggest thing about that team...I was coaching the Idaho team. I'm a Coeur d'Alene guy, played there, went to Idaho & lettered there. I had the opportunity to go from Pasco to Michigan State, but this was Idaho."
An Idaho all-time great. We are devastated to learn of the passing of former Vandal head coach Don Monson. A legacy etched forever into history by one of the greatest to lead the program. Our hearts go out to the Monson family. Thank you, Coach. #GoVandals

Truly one of a kind coach and person. Big Mons was NABC Coach of the Year in 1982 after guiding Idaho to a 27-3 record. Vandals were ranked as high as No. 6 in AP poll during that magical season.
Last night, holding Mom’s hand, Dad passed away peacefully after 92 years of serving the Lord. I’ve lost a great father, my idol, role model, mentor, and, as he would say, Partner. Rest in peace- Big Mons, Mons, Dad, Don, Donny, Papa, Coach, Coach Monson. I love you Dad, PARTSY
