Inside these storage tanks is liquid helium cooled to -452°F. That's nearly absolute zero (-459°F), the coldest anything can be. It's used to cool superconducting magnets at #RHIC . In all, RHIC contains 25 tons of helium that's recovered and stored in a closed-loop system.
