If you live in Wisconsin – or have friends or family who do – there’s an important Supreme Court race happening right now. And there’s only one candidate ready to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites: Judge Susan Crawford. We’ve all seen how important

I wrote about the origins of the "Global South," tracing its origins through Henry Maine's vision of indirect rule, Albert Sauvy's conception of three worlds, and Carl Oglesby's critique of U.S. imperial overreach. With shoutouts to DuBois, Douglass, Mamdani and Karuna Mantena.

“Put simply, ‘global South’ is a euphemism, a seemingly innocuous substitute that allows those in polite society to avoid using the phrase they really mean: the nonwhite world,” writes @Ras_Karya. https://t.co/EdNwjKOKtF

The South Korean National Assembly has decisively rejected President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law declaration, with 190 of the 300 lawmakers voting in favor of the motion to block it. By law, Yoon must comply. Most likely, impeachment procedure will begin.

This is a good note for the US from John. And the US has not covered itself in glory up to now when it comes to Yoon’s record on women or democratic values either.

The US government is not a bystander to the shocking events transpiring in Seoul. Ultimately the South Korean people are in charge. But the lesson of the history of the alliance is it does matter what Washington says and does. #GoogleGwangjumassacre

I’m at the National Assembly. Reported military chopper flying low. Police with shields. People chanting “open the door” and confronting police, saying, “you are going to regret this. This is a sin that will go down the history.” More on @nknewsorg @southkoreapro

Very worried about South Korea right now. There is absolutely no cause for this sort of extraordinary military action.

Just in time for the General Assembly! @BridgetCoggins Annjulie Vester, Jungjae Hong, and I have a @UCIGCC post previewing new data. If your view of UNGA is US isolation and Is/Pal resolutions, the truth is a bit more complicated... #UNGA2024 https://t.co/Tsyibsg47q

My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best

This RIO/@The_PEIO special issue (edited by Duncan Snidal, @thomasnhale, @EmilyJonesBSG, Karolina Milewicz, and myself) explores the strategies that “weak” states use to advance their interests. It includes some fantastic contributions: [THREAD] https://t.co/rpUcpHZd10

More evidence of strategic absence: UNGA adopts a resolution supporting Palestinian statehood. Media outlets emphasize the vote count: 143-9, with 25 abstentions. But 16 other countries conveniently missed voting on a resolution that the US lobbied aggressively against.

New article out with @BridgetCoggins on why countries may strategically skip controversial votes in UNGA. We find that weak states and countries not allied with the US use this practice to avoid political blowback. Check it out here! https://t.co/7gHGT7T53U
