Leaving the Democratic Party is long overdue--for many of us. It's a corrupt shell surviving on working class nostalgia, scare tactics and empty symbolism. But defecting to the GOP or Team MAGA is a mistake. They are not better, and joining them would reinvent the same dynamic

The problem at this phase of the game: Short term, and for prominent early defectors, joining the opposition may be a huge win, which will make it look savvy. Long term, and for most people--> meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Time for a #FreshSheetOfPaper

@BretWeinstein We need a rebooted libertarian party that's supports UBI but not open borders. IMHO.

@BretWeinstein I propose the glorious alt center, or far centrists! So frustratingly agreeable we’re hated by all.

@BretWeinstein Is the GOP perfect? No. Is it as bad as the Dems? Also no. If you're a reasonable person I invite you to join. The Dems are beyond saving. The GOP is salvageable

@BretWeinstein @kanyewest got one thing exactly right: "Decentralize". Diffuse systems are robust systems. The Rep party may be slightly better than the Dems on this point, but only slightly. Deliberate, long term concentration of power in Washington creates fragility.

@BretWeinstein If Dems disappear, Republicans will split. Where the split happens, who knows, but we need a group that will at least try to address spending.

@BretWeinstein We should NOT be joining teams (tribes) or voting along party lines - identity politics is the problem. We should be evaluating candidates as individuals, based on their merits, character, and fitness for office

@BretWeinstein Political parties without meaningful core principles (which describes both major American parties) are nothing but organized conspiracies to take over power.

@BretWeinstein We founded The New Centrists for this very reason. The first region we’ll run candidates is California. We want to rethink what it means to be a political party—campaign funding model, politician recruitment/development, policy platform, membership. Would love your support.

@BretWeinstein Not sure this is true. Compared to most of the world the US still has functional institutions. The Republican party is at least, if not more deserving of collapse than the Democratic party. Some ideas the Dems advocate are seen as moderate & sensible in many western countries.

@BretWeinstein GOP are far far worse and now serve as cover for a would be autocrat. For the first time in my life I may join the Democratic Party. Strange how these times are realigning certain folks.

@BretWeinstein The @kanyewest obsession is nothing but tribalism at it's worst: Republicans cheer / Democrats wail when a prominent member of Team Blue switches sides. But that's still based on the presence of "sides". Think beyond "sides".

@BretWeinstein You’re going to give up? One party is led by a monster who would leave millions starving on the street, the other opposes the current dictator & his complicit accomplices. Tough call?

@BretWeinstein Brother, there are plenty of disgusted ex-Rs looking for a home as well. I am right center but, as far as I can tell, no one wants me. I've found my home with the Libertarians.

@BretWeinstein You really should look more closely at the Libertarian Party. Just move toward individual liberty in the marketplace.

@BretWeinstein Except there’s opportunity to improve the GOP from the inside. But there should be no blind loyalty to party.

@BretWeinstein I wish you'd had time to discuss NonZero during your recent chat with @robertwrighter. Curious to hear your perspective about the his statement that "the loss of sovereignty is a fact of history, one of the most fundamental, stubborn facts in all of history."

@BretWeinstein GOP does less damage. We may be in a time where we can largely bypass government and it’s control of money, information, movement and resources and then we can ignore both parties. Right now GOP keeps Dems from power. Dems seem willing to use democide so that’s a great good.

@BretWeinstein @notaxation We have a two party system. When a new party comes it either dies, or replaces one of the other two parties. The dems are destroying themselves and djt will be the nail in the coffin of the party of Lincoln.make no mistake. The way our government works only allows for 2 parties.

@BretWeinstein @notaxation A problem is thinking you need to define yourself to a party. Being independent is the best option and it's what I am.

@BretWeinstein I can't say what will happen. I just know that Black Americans have been in a static negotiation. If they want a better position to force a deal from both R's and D's, they need to have the ability to be mobile between the parties.

@BretWeinstein @ThinGrayLine01 Anyone against these authoritarian leftist tactics that are being employed more and more should be throwing their weight behind Trump, seriously. Trump is the person to busy it up, and no, there isn't any empirical reasons to believe Trump is extraordinarily dangerous.

@BretWeinstein I am going through the same thing, but from the other side. I hope in my lifetime there is a Whig-to-Republican-like transformation of one of the parties. There seems to be a new, coherent middle-ground. Hopeful.

@BretWeinstein I really don’t think that is happening. Democrats are defecting for sure, but they’re not joining the GOP or donning MAGA hats. They’re a bit like a stateless nation for now. The moderate right and left need each other in the same way that humans have two brain hemispheres.
