In the 4 years I’ve been attending Mass I have not once ever heard a priest bash Protestants. When I was Protestant there were entire sermon series on bashing Catholicism.

When we came into the Church, my husband deployed for a year a few weeks after that. I had people I thought were my friends say “if you hadn’t left our church and became Catholic we would have helped you.” I quickly learned how conditional these relationships were.

It has been nearly 3 years since I became Catholic & I still receive messages from people saying I’m an awful person because of it. The cognitive dissonance it takes to proclaim Christ & treat a friend this way is insane behavior. Not a single time have these people asked me why.

The more they lie the quicker they lose their credibility. When I was a Baptist and I took an honest look I had to admit I was deceived, and find a way to navigate life truthfully even when it made me uncomfortable.

I spent 30 years of my life as a Baptist. I understand why they believe what they believe. I grew up with that context and I had no reason to really question until I moved away from the church I grew up in. Only then did I have to ask questions I never knew to ask.

Officially became Catholic 3 years ago. My daughter was a few weeks old and I had to fight hard to stay awake 🥲.Ironically the Baptist church we left was across the street from the parish.

I was no longer the person they laughed and cried with. The relationship was meaningless. By God’s grace and holy priests who walked alongside me and my children during that year we made it through. I am eternally grateful.

Honestly it’s these blatant lies that had me asking questions such as if we were correct why were we misrepresenting history so badly? Then seeing how propaganda works in 2020 I finally had enough. We joined RCIA the following year.
William Tyndale lost his life for heresy/sedition. Translating the Bible into English wasn’t even illegal where he was.

Childish. No Pope has ever claimed to be God. The Catholic Church has never taught the Pope is God. But the Catholic Church does decree that we proclaim, every Sunday, that Jesus is “God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God…”. By order of the Pope.

@findveritasx If I remember correctly for us it started in September up to Easter vigil it’s called OCIA now. Some people can come in early if their priest thinks they are ready. My husband and I knew enough but our priest wanted us to wait and attend it to gain community and I’m glad he did.

I didn’t leave Protestantism because of bad experiences. That would be pretty dumb because people act like people everywhere. The old lady who dictates the confession line order every week at my parish drives everyone nuts. It’s just funny to reminisce 😂.

It really doesn’t get any easier the more deployments we go through. Please pray for my children. They all deal with this grief differently, and I try my best to help them through it. Just some days hit harder and I can only do so much but this void they feel is deep and real.

When my husband deployed to Portugal we had just entered the Catholic Church. He said if we were still Baptist there would have been nowhere for him to go to church. I don’t think many in America realize that their brand of Christianity is foreign everywhere else.

I had a pastor once chastise me from the pulpit for not yelling amen pastor. I’ve literally never done this in my life but he needed that affirmation for some reason. His wife made him apologize to me, but people left after that because it was so uncomfortable.

It’s been 3 years. Three. Years. I have been very open on my personal social media about being Catholic. And I still get messages from people who are just now realizing this and chastise me. I just remind them had they been involved in my life the last even 4 years they would.

@hillbillythings I had my first confession & anointing of the sick on a Friday because I was having a c section with my daughter the following Monday. She was my first c section & the nurse said I was the calmest she’s ever seen & I blurted out “I went to confession Friday so I’m ok if I die.”😂.

We were just kids with a kid, and now we are happily married for 13 years, have 5 children, and are Catholic converts. God made something beautiful from ashes and I am so grateful. I’m also much less adventurous with my hair now😂

One of the biggest shifts I’ve seen going from Baptist to Catholic is Catholic families show up with all their kids chaos and all because it’s normal to have a bunch of kids running and we show up no matter what. Whereas at a Baptist church we would send the kids away.
