The A's have finally started to build something, and the rash of extensions the last couple of years is a major indicator that the players believe it too. The only team I worry about in the AL West over the next 5 years as an M's fan.
BREAKING: Shortstop Jacob Wilson and the Athletics are in agreement on a seven-year, $70 million contract extension that includes an eighth-year club option, sources tell ESPN. Wilson, 23, finished second in AL Rookie of the Year voting last season after hitting .311/.355/.444.

I have secretly loved this idea all offseason.
"The idea of Lars Nootbaar and Brendan Donovan together in Seattle, I could see that being a possibility." @Ken_Rosenthal still sees the Mariners as the favorite for Brendan Donovan.

Will the 2026 Mariners rotation put up better numbers than the 2025 rotation?

I love a 3 way trade. I also love the M's not needing to consider Lowe anymore. Jonny Tsumani. Go big or go home.
Three-way trade news: Pittsburgh, Houston and Tampa Bay have a deal that is officially done, sources tell ESPN. Pirates get: 2B Brandon Lowe, LHP Mason Montgomery, OF Jake Mangum Rays get: OF Jacob Melton and RHP Anderson Brito Astros get: RHP Mike Burrows

Everything I've learned about current/former players in the last 15 years is that they value prospects about 20x less than fans and 5x less than executives. I would be shocked if they said something other than this.
“If I’m trading him [Brendan Donovan] away, I need Bryce Miller or somebody like that.” Lance Lynn says the return for Donovan can't be any lower-level minor league prospects.

Outside the box name for M's to consider is Trevor Story. Frees up Red Sox to dive into FA/trade market (Seager, Bichette, SP), M's get flexible top of the order infielder for 2-3 more years. M's reportedly had interest when he was a FA in '22.

Everyone and their mom is looking for a 2B right now. Feels like corner OF market is quiet. Ms adding a serious bat who can play out there moves Robles into a bench role (or trade) and Canzone off the field.

Favorite swing-big candidates in order: Jose Ramirez, Tatis Jr., Ronald Acuna, Ketel Marte. J-Ram probably most untouchable (unless something's changes since this '22 article: https://t.co/j398rbdXIG)

With superstar money available elsewhere, April's AL Player of the Month instead choose to help the Guardians rebuild.
Mariners aren't opposed to doing "something big" this week at the MLB Winter Meetings. Could a reunion with Ketel Marte be in the works? Reporting with @RyanDivish: https://t.co/dt1OczqBpm

2 down, 1 to go.
Resign Naylor. Trade for Acuna. Add a leverage bullpen arm. Win a World Series. #mariners

Based on the 2 deals they made a few months ago, Ms and DBacks should know each other’s valuations and prospects very well. Lots of groundwork already done.

Happy for Harry Ford. A true 80-grade human being who deserves every opportunity to carve out a Major League role.

You will read a lot of "Harry Ford top catcher prospect" today. Nothing against Ford but he is not currently one of the top 10 catching prospects in the game. He is catcher with solid OBP skills and concerns about his power and defense.

Ms don’t love to spend money on the bullpen. Saves them from spending $6-12M. Move that money to contract extensions and position players

I’m bummed to see Harry Ford traded. I think that some aren’t sold on his development both behind and at the plate. Betting on a cost-controlled lefty reliever now, likely targeting a vet C now.

Great perspective by @TheMikeSalk. Similar vein as Cronenworth is add Jeff McNeil to the list of options. Both the Mets and Padres would likely be chipping in money over time to make these deals work.
A group of players has emerged as potential trade candidates during the MLB offseason. @TheMikeSalk breaks down which targets make the most sense for the #Mariners. https://t.co/kBRWxF4uwx
