$20 Wine Thread I've gotten requests to find wines in the $20 range so here it is! I have personally tried all of these wines. $20 is a funky range. You can get absolutely awful and so good you question the price. Not all are the latter, but these are great bang for your buck

Having pizza with friends and want to bring a simple, inexpensive (~$30) wine? Jean Bouchard Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Particularly good with pepperoni or other meat pizza. The wine is quite fruity, but will highlight the spice in the pizza excellently. Point it out to your friends

If you're looking for better French wine, you may notice some bottles have "Grand Vin" on them. This usually means it is the best wine of that estate. Take this seriously! French wine laws are very strict. So when they say something like this, they have to mean it

You're on a date, you're both wine beginners, and you're not having food with it.. Go for Pinot Noir. $30-40 bottle from Willamette Valley or Russian River Valley You can try Burgundy, but it will be more delicate & complex. Not as easy to work through. Keep it straightforward

Granite Soil Granite soil is coarse and rocky, and is composed of different minerals such as quartz, mica, and feldspar. A key feature is the drainage it provides. By doing this, it prevents the vines from getting waterlogged. The roots dig deeper, and maintain structure..

Sweet food needs sweet wine. For dessert, that means the wine should be even sweeter than the food. But don't overlook this with dinner! Cuisines such as Thai have sweetness, and will need a wine with the same. Off-dry Riesling or Gewürztraminer usually do the trick

One of the 1st steps to pairing wine & food is matching the body of the wine to the richness of the food. Rich food goes w full wine That's why steak goes with something like Cabernet Sauvignon and chicken goes with a white or light red Obviously more nuances but thats a start!

The actual color of a wine usually doesn't mean much in terms of quality, but the clarity of it does. Good wine, even full reds, should be clear. If it's cloudy, it's low quality, and there may even be a fault

Behold - the Speyer Wine Bottle. Discovered in 1867, this wine, still sealed to this day, has been dated back to 300-350 AD. They used a wax seal with a great deal of olive oil to preserve it. Some have said it still has a few drinkable sips!

Something about wine that brings people together more so than any other drink. Maybe I'm biased. Probably not though

I Giusti & Zanza Dulcamara Toscana 2015 (other vintages are fine). Cab Sauv, Merlot, Cab Franc blend. Gem of a wine for its price (~$50). Thank me later

If you're drinking wine today, and you're want to be festive, it should be from California. Today is the anniversary of the Judgment of Paris, the day California proved USA greatness in wine and gave it true international recognition
