And yet more Prince John / King John depictions, and I skipped a number of them too.

Roger Moore - Great as Ivanhoe, Simon Templar aka The Saint aka “The Robin Hood of Modern Crime” and my first James Bond.
Remembering Roger Moore, BOTD 1927. Undoubtedly one of the most popular and much loved British actors. He refused to take himself too seriously, yet passionately took on his ambassadorial role at UNICEF and campaigned for animal welfare, even funding some of those personally.

In memory of #TonyCaunter, we profiled him on Straight Outta the Federation. Superb actor. #RIPTonyCaunter
This episode of the #Blakes7 podcast @SOFederation features a spotlight on the life and career of Tony Caunter. https://t.co/9UTAfwgxus He plays Ensor Jr. in Blake's 7, but three years earlier he was Friar Tuck in The Legend of Robin Hood -- one of my favourite Tucks. #RobinHood

Oh no, Tony Caunter was an amazing Friar Tuck in 1975’s The Legend of Robin Hood. Working on a 50th anniversary retrospective of it now. #RobinHood
Tony Caunter was a reliable TV face, equally comfortable on either side of the law: always extremely dependable. That he was then rewarded with household name status in Eastenders was a deserved cherry on his acting cake. I visited at home some years back and he was lovely. RIP x

October 14, 1066: The Battle of Hastings. An event that looms large in the Robin Hood legend (after Sir Walter Scott’s 1819 novel Ivanhoe), even though most versions of #RobinHood are set over 100 years later. #BattleofHastings #OTD #NothingsForgotten

And I can’t think of 1959, #ErrolFlynn and Canada without thinking of his appearance as the mystery guest on CBC’s Front Page Challenge:

Oct. 14, 1959: Errol Flynn dies in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He was arguably the greatest movie version of Robin Hood. Contemporary news reports claimed he died laughing. #OTD #ErrolFlynn #RobinHood #classicmovies #hollywoodhistory

A little tidbit I discovered in rewatching the second series of the 2006-2009 Robin Hood TV series is that the penultimate episode of that season, “A Good Day to Die” by @dminghella, October 14 is said to be Robin Hood’s birthday. Happy birthday to this incarnation of #RobinHood
