Mighty Iain Cuthbertson is best known for Sutherland’s Law, Budgie & as Scunner Campbell in Supergran. He also starred in Gorillas in the Mist & was brilliant in Doctor Who’s The Ribos Operation. A severe stroke in 1982 ended his stage (but NOT screen) career. #stonetapelive.

Neil Wilson (Sarge) was in Q Experiment, Dixon of DG (regular), & Seely in Dr Who’s Spearhead from Space. He was Kneale’s friend David Simeon’s (Murrain) landlord. A confidence-shattering experience on The Gorge (1968) damaged his health: he died in 1975 at 58.#stonetapelive.

Jane Asher has a previous connection with Nigel Kneale having appeared as a child in the film The Quatermass Xperiment (1955). She also appeared in the 2015 radio version of The Stone Tape (& the 2006 A For Andromeda). She’s also a delightful person & a real pro!.#stonetapelive.

The one cast member I’d like to know more about is Philip Trewinnard (please don’t send me things you’ve got from Google/IMDb: thanks) who I think is really good as Stew. I think he’s still around but he went quiet after writing the sitcom Running Wild (1989). #stonetapelive.

John Forgeham was another of the cast who has been in everything - often playing thugs or rough cops. He got VERY well known later in his career thanks to Footballer’s Wives but I’d like to acknowledge his excellent Lajaune in Douglas Camfield’s BBC Beau Geste. #stonetapelive.

Reginald Marsh is of course best known as Arthur in The Plane Makers and Sir Dennis in Terry and June. Despite his late arrival here his status ensures he gets fifth billing: & the running joke of his coloured hands probably earns it. It’s delightful Kneale comedy. #stonetapelive.

Having had an impressive film career up to this point (Battle of Britain, Frenzy, Clockwork Orange etc) Michael Bates was just about to become EXTREMELY familiar in 2 comedies : Last of the Summer Wine / It Ain’t Half Hot Mum. Like Michael Graham Cox he died at 57. #stonetapelive.

Michael Graham Cox (Alan) has the distinction of playing Boromir in both the BBC Radio 4 & animated film of Lord of the Rings. He voiced Bigwig in Watership Down. A strong, busy actor in the 70s/80s (excellent as a seedy cop in The Gentle Touch). He died in 1995. #stonetapelive.

Tom Chadbon is of course Duggan in Doctor Who’s City of Death (plus Merdeen in Trial of a Time Lord) but his fantasy credits are legion : he’s the lead in an Out of the Unknown & popped up in Game of Thrones & he’s in Blake’s7: Countdown as a possible new regular. #stonetapelive.

Great M Bryant story: when in Wind in the Willows at the National the actors were sent away to study the movement of the creatures they were playing & report back. He told the director “it seems that badgers move very much like the actor Michael Bryant.”.#stonetapelive.
