Scary incident in Toga 1. Reportedly horse is ok. What a scarring incident for a 2YO filly Same Old Fears making her debut for Wesley Ward. Jose Ortiz did get up but he is being sent to the hospital for checkup and will be out the rest of the day at least.

Remember stunning late scratch of Echo Zulu at gate by state vet last spring at Belmont. Asmussen disputed EZ was lame (see pic) but laid her off. Now horse breaks down after huge Beyer two back. Hopefully they can save her. Warning sign was there but no one questions Asmussen.
Echo Zulu sustained a biaxial sesamoid bone fracture of the left-front fetlock during training this morning at Santa Anita. She has been stabilized in a kimzey splint and will undergo surgery Saturday morning, per trainer Steve Asmussen.

I heard about this on Friday and got details from a source close to Bryson. I decided not to post because people will jump to conclusions.
Bottom line - wrong place, wrong time, wrong people. Charges probably leverage to testify against real shooter.

Intentional herding really needs to be outlawed IMO. This is what leads to some of the aggressive riding we see today. If your drifts over 3 or more lanes herding it should be ground for a DQ. But NY has gotten soft on this and now riders like Ortiz use it as a riding tactic.
