We have learned over the last few yrs that cardiometabolic risk factors worsen outcomes in patients w/ alcohol-associated liver disease. Here, we show that T2DM & obesity have differing associations w/ outcomes across the spectrum of ALD. @singal_ashwani

The danger he poses is due to his lack of basic understanding of science, medicine, and public health; his ill-regard towards actual experts; and his enormous platform. Not his former addiction.

I am not a fan of RFK Jr and frankly think he is dangerous to America and to Public Health. However, his former addiction to heroin has nothing to do with him being dangerous for Public Health. Addiction touches almost every American life, it is time we stop stigmatizing it.

Vaccines do not cause autism. Tylenol does not cause autism. Autism is a complex, multi-factorial diagnosis with no single clear cause — but there are massive amounts of data and analysis showing neither of the above are contributors to autism risk. Stating otherwise is lying.

To the other doctors and scientists pulling out their (thinning) hair the last several days over the state of healthcare and public health: 👀 I see you

Want to highlight 2️⃣ vaccines given in childhood that can save lives as adults: Hepatitis B virus (HBV): Protects kids from chronic HBV, which can result in cirrhosis and liver cancer (can sometimes happen in 20s) HPV: Prevents cervical and head & neck cancer 💪 Vaccinate

Absolutely horrified that the Hepatitis B Birth Dose is under attack. 📢AASLD members: @AASLDtweets has made it easy to write to your senators & representatives to educate them about how vital this dose is for public health. Form below takes seconds👇 https://t.co/QW7ORTUdFI

Hate to break it to the anti-doctor crowd, but we don’t get kickbacks every time we write a prescription. In fact, we spend unpaid time fighting insurers right and left just to get coverage for our patients in the first place.

I had a MD appointment today where I was seen by a 3rd year med student who took a full hx, including physical activity. We got to talking about cycling ❤️! 💪Reminder to keep and grow (or find) your hobbies through medical training! Pic: 🇳🇴 🚵♀️ w/ 7 on 1000ft climb ⛰️🚞

I did an educational post on @tiktok_us about5⃣ things to avoid for liver health (binge drinking, more than moderate drinking, turmeric supplements, liver detoxs, and ignoring metabolic health). I have 8 followers. ⁉️It was immediately flagged for removal⁉️ @theliverdr

This is horrendous—consumers need to understand the risks associated even with moderate drinking. Alcohol has been associated with many cancers, including liver and breast cancer. For women, liver disease risk increases with just one drink a day. https://t.co/I1GQbI22PY

The upcoming U.S. Dietary Guidelines will instead be influenced by a competing study, favored by industry, which found that moderate alcohol consumption was healthy.

Important & timely topic on a global public health issue very dear to us Hepatologists. I would encourage those interested in HBV transmission & prevention, including @HHSGov @RobertKennedyJr, to attend, especially with healthcare becoming further out of reach for many Americans.
Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) is the main way #HepatitisB spreads worldwide. We already have tools to prevent it, but they don't reach everyone. New innovations and accessible approaches can help close the gap, especially in resource-limited settings. Attend this webinar

I’m not so sure. In our fibroscan study on patients undergoing tx for AUD, return to alcohol use rates were the same for those with a clean bill of liver health vs those with clinically significant ALD. Would be curious to see behavior change after genetic risk disclosure l.

I agree that PNLPLA3 has the potential to be a very useful tool—allowing us to keep a close eye on high risk patients. Knowing risk can also potentially be motivating for the patient. There is some fear that a negative test will give the “go-ahead” for unhealthy lifestyle.
Today I spoke with our hospital’s genetics director about including PNPLA3 genotyping as a routine test for personalized medicine. The evidence is overwhelming. 👉 Do you have it available in your hospital? If not convinced, check the figure below ⬇️
