I am very excited to announce that I will be joining @VCU_Liver following my graduation from Transplant Hepatology fellowship. As someone who loves caring for patients with liver disease, teaching, and researching the best organ ever, I cannot think of a better place to be! 🎉🤩.

We lost our beautiful dog at age 2 after a “routine” spay surgery where her mesenteric arteries were tied off resulting in bowel ischemia, days in an ICU, a total of 3 surgeries, and death after coding 7 times. There are no words for this. We are devastated and miss her so much.

Maybe better than him getting openly racially profiled on @SouthwestAir?. And no, we did not buy refundable tickets but what completely outrageous change fees (at least 2-3x what we paid for roundtrip) and an outrageous charge to cancel one leg of booking?!. When did airtravel=💩.

Such an important topic. 👉👈Many point fingers re: who is responsible for managing mental health in liver disease, with hepatology uncomfortable w/ mental health and psychiatry uncomfortable w/ CLD. Result: Our patients get left behind. ✅ SSRIs are safe and first-line.

Depression and anxiety affect nearly 1️⃣ of 2️⃣ patients with liver disease, yet often go unaddressed. 😫. Our latest editorial in @HepCommJournal calls on hepatologists to screen 🔎 and support the emotional burden in #cirrhosis, with pragmatic tools from recent studies 🛠️

Happy someone did this study. 👉Most GIs do prescribe PPI ppx after banding. I used to, too. The evidence does not support this, with PPIs associated with all sorts of badness in cirrhosis. 🛑Non-indicated PPIs in cirrhosis!.

PPI after variceal banding does nothing good, in this study that confirms my bias

Patience is not always a virtue. Impatience is fuel for taking initiative. Being content to wait can make people reactive. A distaste for delays motivates them to be proactive. "Restless" kids often grow up to become resourceful adults.

A friend of mine in medical school coined the phrase “evidence-based outrage”. Over the last few years and months, I have developed alot of evidence-based outrage.

Injectable naltrexone should be available to patients at hospital discharge and in clinic for our patients with ALD and AUD. Pro tip: prescribe a few naltrexone PO for the end of the month when naltrexone injectable begins to wear off.

Just gave an engaging talk on treating AUD in patients w/ alcohol-associated digestive disease to the University of Rwanda 🌟GI fellows. I learned stigma for AUD & mental health is universal. 👉This next generation of global GIs/Hepatologists is the change we need to improve 📉.
