Gold needs a lot of new buyers to keep prices stable/higher. In 2024, ~3,660 tons were mined and ~1,370 tons recycled. At current prices, thats ~$680B new gold that must be bought. For Bitcoin, ~164,000 new bitcoin is mined per year now. That's ~$24B new supply to be bought.

Hi!✌️Personally, I’m not a fan of vibes-based trust. First VERIFY, then trust, is my motto. Which is why Signal is open source. We want everyone to be able to inspect our code, and our encryption protocol, and see for themselves the lengths we go to to protect your comms and

The easiest way to pay with gold is to get in your car and drive to the recipient’s home/office to hand deliver the gold to them. Let that sink in.
@BitcoinPierre Have you ever tried mailing gold and silver? lol, try that through the post office. see their options for doing it. I will never possess metal money again after selling in 2021. I tried to mail it in 2017. if only I sold it all instead of driving it halfway across the US.

How do you use gold on the internet? Mailing with USPS to pay for ecommerce seems impractical.

Civilization requires oxygen to breathe but we don't use it as a monetary medium. The utility value of a commodity money might be what enables it to initially gain an agreed upon value, but it directly interferes with its usefulness as a monetary medium.
This is #Gold in space | This is #Bitcoin in space Bitcoin needs gold to operate. A modern civilization requires gold. You don’t NEED Bitcoin for anything.

@BitcoinPierre @J0SH_SPEED @Omamba256 Gold proponents often exhibit bias because Bitcoin disrupts their narrative of gold as the ultimate store of value, exposing its logistical flaws like storage and transport. They've invested emotionally and financially in a physical asset paradigm that Bitcoin renders obsolete

It would be far too expensive to audit every bar of gold in the world, nobody knows what % is tungsten. Bitcoin global supply is trivially auditable.

Gold influencers hate this question, they don’t have a reasonable answer.
@patato_ass How does he know it’s real? He has to trust China Construction Bank?

You can’t email gold. You can’t teleport gold. You can’t divide gold into a billion pieces and send it across the world at 2am. Congrats, you invented a shiny rock. Bitcoin invented civilization 2.0.

Gold is orders of magnitude more expensive in transaction costs to buy/sell than bitcoin.
@1776_LifeZ @BitcoinPierre Don’t forget about dealer premiums screwing you on both sides of the transaction!

Nanoforges and transmutation reactors, controlled quark–gluon plasmas that rearrange protons at industrial scale, will “print” 400‑oz London Good Delivery bars by the container‑ship load. Gold isn’t as scarce as people think long term.

When humanity unlocks access to the 16‑Psyche–sized asteroids whose spectral scans suggest tens of trillions of troy ounces of gold, autonomous refinery drones will ferry bullion back to Earth until the yellow metal’s supply curve looks like that of beach sand.
