Hard to expect much from a treaty when, with all the knowledge about its dangers, the developed world offers only tokenism within it’s own territories.

The plastics treaty has failed again. The petrostates are using waste and recycling as a distraction - it will allow them to keep producing in perpetuity. Hard to feel hopeful when the lobby has America’s backing.

Our dogs. Both Indies. Grateful to be able to give them a home. And their own bed. Sadly unable to keep all Delhi’s 10 lakh strays. The @htTweets reported it would take 3 crores a day to follow the court orders, and acres and acres of space. None of this exists. It’s

This is going to be very expensive. India’s CSR rules allow donation animal welfare. The government needs to raise funds from its own sources, incl by scrapping some projects, and by external contributions. Let’s try this for a year and monitor dog reduction and bite reduction.

Any dog/dogs that attack humans shd be picked up and kept in cages per the norms. Invest in this instead of wealth to waste parks or waste to energy plants. But pick them up per norms. Meaning via trained personnel who can tranquillise them, handle them without treating them.

Most of Delhi is densely populated. Dog feeding spots away from schools and homes is hard but important. Identify designated spots to be used only. The feeder and the feedees associated w them must be registered and bear non-financial responsibility for sterilisation and.

We also need to stop dumping wet waste in dhalaos because it is a langar for dogs. Want to feel safer? Compost at home or near the colony- but take charge. A slew of incentives are in order to kick start this.

While this is happening, we need a massive campaign and at least para vets to identify rabid dogs with the help of the public. Newly infected dogs aren’t easy to identify and technical inputs are vital. These are a threat to human and canine life and must be put down per a due.

Of course this means Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and NOIDA at least. Dogs are territorial and as old ones pass or age, new ones take their place and authority. We think of airsheds for air pollution. Let’s think of dog sheds for reduction.

First, IMO we need to know that the ideal scenario is to phase out street dogs over the next 8 years w steady year-on-year reductions. Many new norms today will be ready to pass-street dogs have a shorter life than pets. To reduce the numbers to almost zero, we need a.

We share our home w two indies, one from the backlanes of Delhi. I’ve cared for some street dogs and tried to tend to many more. In short, I feel for street dogs. But I also feel for human beings. I won’t deny the brutality and horror of dog bites, dog attacks and rabies all.
