This thread is incredible! Highly recommend it for anyone trying to understand why “things are the way they are”
Do you really get to decide the kind of place you want to live in? Let’s look at five ways Americans tell everyone how they have to live. Hint: it’s less about arrogance and more about ignorance. 🧵

Cobb has over 2400 miles of roads they’ve built and need to maintain. This distance is the same as Cobb County to Modesto, CA.

🚨🚨Great News Alert! 🚨🚨 Last night, Cobb County Commissioners voted 5-0 to adopt a #VisionZero inspired Safety Action Plan with a goal of zero deaths or injuries on our roadways! This is a small but important first step to make our roads safer for all users!

This is a GREAT improvement for pedestrians AND BIKERS to the Noonday Creek Trail.
Keep an eye out for survey crews along Cobb Parkway/US 41 as preliminary engineering starts for the new pedestrian bridge proposed for the Noonday Creek Trail. This is a much needed trail safety improvement for pedestrians at this busy state route. #WeAreTownCenter

The fact that GDOT is saying drivers should buckle up to protect bicyclists is a CHOICE

In conclusion, there is going to be a big fight about the future in Marietta that impacts everyone who lives, works, or visits Marietta. Will we see improved density and mobility or will we follow a NIMBY approach? We have a lot of work to do…

-A shocking number of speakers were supportive of apartments and spoke in favor of the development. One of the business owners made it clear that more housing was key to their business -Some opponents want the Square to limit growth, be more exclusive

After introductions, a Q&A session occurred. A lengthy discussion about the train horn kicked things off…but here were the key takeaways: -Many of the audience speakers live close enough to walk to the square - and often do -Although people complain, there is a ton of parking

So, back to tonight’s meeting. The biggest highlight of the introduction was one of the business owners saying they need more bike parking at the Square and a better off-Square pedestrian experience. Lowlight was nobody said anything about transit. It was mostly about drivers.

He also recently vetoed a new apartment proposal to replace an empty Kroger and pushed for an Apartment Moratorium to be passed. He also said this about density…
