Did a little rock’n’roll show today on Radio Northampton. 100s & 100s of people got in touch which doesn’t happen so much on local radio nowadays. But it did for us, as ever. It was full before we even started! Not hard: give people what they can relate to. Oh, & miss you, Steve.

#TheNetherlands has been my favourite to win from the start! Man! Quite pleased I’m working so won’t be able to watch Eurovision live: something I’ve loved from childhood is falling apart! We’re about as far from puppets, Clodagh & Jan Leeming as it’s possible to be. #gettingold.

I shall be head to toe in hot pink!!.

Today is my 24th anniversary working for the BBC (not that they’d ever dream of recognising it!). To me 24 years on the same show is either impressive or a great example of underachievement! Anyway, they’ve chosen to mark it by de-activating my pass so I couldn’t get in! Nice.

Doing Rock’n’Roll Heaven today for 4 hours from 10 on Radio Northampton: over 500 requests already & we’re not on yet! Unprecedented for local radio these days. Old & current rnr. Love doings shows that have a real buzz & yet there’s no regular rnr show on mainstream radio. Crazy.

Sad radio day: @wave105radio ends. Day 1, nervously waiting for my evening shift to start- I think we each did an introductory hour. And footballer Larry Lloyd has passed. Oddly his phone-in followed me on Century. How listeners loved talking to him. I remember both very fondly.

He’s a lovely boy!! Maz WAS a delight- I hope she had a lovely birthday.

I have been left bereft since they took off Steve Wright in the Afternoon, driving home in silence, & now a proper loss. Just brilliant- I’ve said for years that he’s up there with the very best. Inspirational doesn’t do it justice- he was everything I aim to be. Irreplaceable.

One of those that just gets funnier! Have you seen this?! Local radio needs cheering up today so this will do! 😂😂.

Annie Nightingale’s greatest skill was to talk to 1 person, never ‘everybody’ or ‘gang’. I listened & learnt. She once bet Joe Strummer a Cadillac that London Calling would go Top 10. It didn’t but she got a cadillac & its sale proceeds went to recession-hit Corby. Class act.

So I’ve just done my little rock’n’roll show. I have NEVER had a response like it! Anywhere. Hundreds & hundreds of messages for 4 hours - like being national. Astonishing. Yet it was local. People knock it but #bbclocal is still a powerful force IF you give ‘em what they want.

The show I’m most proud of is Rock’n’Roll Heaven with classic rockers & hundreds of new RNR songs. It became a family of listeners around the world & UK. Tomorrow 10am it’s back as a New Year treat. Radio Northampton Friday & on @BBCSounds Hit us up & join our amazing 4 hr party.

Looking 4wd to Red & Blue 2mrw but always cross with claims Beatles came 1st, ignoring great stuff that went before. The Chart Co claims these are the 1st greatest hits! No: Mathis in 58, then Elvis, Cliff had had 4 by then & The Stones ‘71. So hard to get pre-63 on the radio!.

Can’t help but think that the word “legend” has been diluted in recent years- King Arthur & Robin Hood must be livid! Just some random bloke on the radio that most people haven’t heard of although I’m very big in my house. Always an honour to represent my home county. At 4 today.

So @lizgreenlive & I were thrown together through a deep-rooted paralysing fear. We’ve never met in 4 years so today I drove to Halifax from Northants to surprise her. 1stly thank Heavens she hadn’t taken a day off (!) & 2ndly this is what freedom & friendship-for-life look like.

Peter Bone, you say?! In a bathroom??!! Asking for massages???!! And in unrelated news the police chief of Northants suspended??!!! And I’m not on air???!!! Whaaaaaaaat???!!!!! It’s been handed to me on a plate!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️.

Very bizarre to be on Skegness prom in the car in pouring rain listening to 2 listeners argue the case for our rock’n’roll show (“went all over the world… 13 years… where are the figures?”) on R4 with my last commercial radio boss discussing the BBC changes. Quite surreal!.

Just to show the love there is for rock’n’roll, - a great re-issue/ compilation label- have curated a CD of the shortest songs ever recorded. This is the 1st ed. of US artists, with UK to come next month. Orders are fab, showing it should be on the radio!
