"I haven’t heard a damned thing."
Michael Malone is still waiting for a sign from his father.
Until one comes, he'll keep replaying their conversations in his mind.

@DenverPost
Suni Lee on deciding to still come to college after Olympics: “I don’t think anybody intended for me to win gold. I didn’t intend for that to happen, so it was kind of like I already had my mind set: I’m going to Auburn. … I wanted to be here.”
Aaron Gordon, asked what he likes about playing the five: “There’s only two positions in basketball. On the floor and off the floor.” Gordon prefers to be on the floor.
The
@denverpost
can report Valeri Nichushkin was involved in a police incident at
#Avs
team hotel in Seattle, resulting in a woman who was found intoxicated in his room being transported to hospital for medical treatment. Nichushkin left Seattle that day.
Things DeAndre Jordan is good for, according to Nikola Jokic: “…to give you advice on and off the court, to make fun of somebody, to make fun of him. He’s always up to something. To share a glass of wine (with), too. He’s a really good teammate.”
Aaron Gordon is ready to play tomorrow vs. Hornets, he tells
@denverpost
. The dog that bit him on Christmas was his Rottweiler that his dad usually takes care of because the Nuggets travel so often. “He’s a good boy. He’s a good dog,” Gordon says. More soon
@DPostSports
.
Nikola Jokic on Chet Holmgren:
“He’s a really talented guy, but this is his first year. He’s still learning everything. … I think he needs experience. I think he needs to be a little bit fatter, to be honest.”
Jeff Graba on Auburn Arena tonight: “This is why they came here. … Well, this is more than what they came for.”
“In my opinion, there’s not an atmosphere even close to this in college gymnastics.”
Erik Johnson said as he was walking into the arena today, Pavel Francouz told him he was going to get a hat trick.
Francouz was mad at Johnson after the game for scoring only one.
I’ve lived in Missouri my entire life, so it feels weird to leave, but here we go: I got a job!
Starting next week, I’ll be the new Auburn beat writer for the Montgomery Advertiser (
@MGMAdvertiser
) and USA TODAY Network. Excited and humbled to join a stellar SEC coverage team.
Evan Rodrigues, who joined the
#Avs
on a 1-year deal in Sept., wants to be back. “I love it here. Family loved it here. It’s an unbelievable team. It’s a team that’s set up to win Stanley Cups. Elite talent. When we’re healthy, depth. Forwards, D, goalie. It’s an awesome group.”
Murray State guard Tevin Brown says he didn’t talk with any teammates or Auburn people before tweeting the three-weeks-old final score. It was all his idea, in an effort to bring a peaceful end to the Auburn fanbase’s Meme War.
Hello from mountain time. Next week I begin new job as the Colorado Avalanche beat writer for The Denver Post. I can’t wait to get to know the city, interact with the fanbase and find interesting stories. Please don’t hesitate to hmu with what you enjoy reading about! Can’t wait.
Cale Makar stayed in full uniform in the locker room for a while. He was the last
#Avs
player to leave. Was hard on himself, said he didn’t play well enough in this series.
Did the ESPN broadcast just ask if Auburn claims Cam Newton? I can't tell if that actually happened or if my Undisclosed Illness is making me delusional.
After the All-Star Game, Bill Walton found Nikola Jokic again to chat. They talked at practice the day before. Why has Walton has become Jokic’s biggest fan and advocate?
“Nikola Jokic represents the conquest of substance over hype,” he told
@denverpost
.
Michael Malone already had a feeling his record at Utah was bad, but he found out how bad this morning -- the Nuggets are 1-14 during his tenure in Salt Lake City.
"I think it's jet lag. That's a really long flight. And we don't really acclimate to the altitude very well."
South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said he doesn’t know if anyone in the country plays a schedule year in and year out as difficult as the Gamecocks do (Clemson, Georgia, Texas A&M). Wonder if Auburn’s Bryan Harsin would beg to differ.
Michael Porter Jr. said each of his teammates texted him individually to check in after a tough last few days. "A lot of people were reaching out. Friends, family. So to have these guys understand why I missed practice yesterday and just have my back has been big for me."
Happy 1st weekend of baseball! A life update: This summer I’ll be covering the Cardinals and STL sports for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch/
@stltoday
as a Rick Hummel Intern. Surreal opportunity to learn from MLB Hall of Famer
@cmshhummel
,
@dgoold
& other greats at my hometown paper.
Ronald Acuña Jr.: “I was a little scared at first, but I think the fans were out there and asking for a picture. But security was able to get there, and so I think everything’s OK. Everyone’s OK.”
He said the second, more aggressive fan was also just asking for a photo.
Joel Embiid on telling Nikola Jokic postgame that Jokic is best in the NBA: "We hugged it out. It's funny because Twitter, they have a war going on between Philly fans and Denver fans. ... Both of us are just like, 'Who cares?' We just want to play basketball and win some games."
The Nuggets have never lost a Western Conference home game with Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon playing. That's what's at stake in the second half tonight.
Some news: I’m changing roles. Really excited to share I’m the new Nuggets beat writer at the
@DenverPost
. I’ve had a blast covering the Avalanche, and my byline still may cross over occasionally. But I’m thrilled to be back on a basketball beat abundant with interesting stories.
After Michael Malone called out his bench unit in Houston, three young neighbors weren't ready to sleep yet when the Nuggets landed in Denver from a 1-4 road trip late that night.
On the bond between Christian Braun, Peyton Watson and Julian Strawther:
Bruce Pearl: "If you want to take a picture of an Auburn basketball player and it's Zep Jasper and say, 'That's Auburn basketball,' I'd be OK with that."
Owen Pappoe asked if he would like Auburn to wear orange jerseys for the orange-out vs. Penn State. "Auburn's real traditional."
"I've mentioned it to them a couple of times, including last year."
Says he's been told Auburn is planning some sort of uniform surprise this year...
Christian Braun said his phone was blowing up a bit because of his dunk, but "I haven't really looked at my phone yet. I saw my mom texted me."
What did she say?
"Lord knows. I probably can't say it in here."
Aaron Gordon explains Christmas dog bite injuries that required 21 stitches, tells
@denverpost
he feels good enough to play after return to practice.
“For lack of better words, I was (messing) around with my dog, and when you (mess) around, you find out.”
Artturi Lehkonen is day-to-day. I asked Jared Bednar if he thought the Charlie McAvoy play that that injured Lehkonen was dirty.
“Yes.”
Because of the takedown itself or just because it was after the whistle?
“Both.”

Michael Malone and Nikola Jokic are standing under the arena waiting for the Nuggets as they leave the floor, greeting everyone with high fives on the other side of the tunnel. Jokic jumped all over KCP and Malone gave him a double H5. Reggie Jackson got a big hug from Joker.
I’ve spent many hours the last three years searching for and often failing to find the right words to describe games. Now I graduate in a week and I cannot find the right words to describe how that makes me feel. For now, I‘ll settle with this: Faurot, it has been far out.
Cale Garrett says this is the play when he originally injured his left pectoral tendon, with 3:27 left in the first quarter. He ended up having three straight tackles on this series and he played the rest of the first half. Played through the injury for two INTs and a touchdown.
Yesterday was my last game on the Auburn beat. Today is my last day. It was a great experience and a lovely place to live. I’m grateful to friends who made me feel at home in a new state. Grateful to
@tommydeas
&
@ByChrisThomas
for the opportunity. Grateful to everyone who reads.
Peyton Watson loudly bleated like a goat in Nikola Jokic’s direction as Jokic was walking through the locker room toward the showers. Jokic had earbuds in. Unclear if he could hear it. But he was looking over at Watson with an expression somewhere between confusion and contempt.
My 2 cents: Cuonzo Martin deserved 1 more year. He has shown what he can do with time to develop a roster. He’s a good coach. The recruiting was an issue. But he inherited a program at its all-time worst and got it back to March 2x in 4 years. Left Mizzou better than he found it.
Jordan Weber throws a no-hitter and
#Mizzou
beats Iowa State 5-0 to advance to the NCAA super regional vs. James Madison at Mizzou Stadium next weekend.
Missouri won all three games this weekend and outscored its opponents 17-0 and allowed two hits in 20 innings. Dominance.
Thanks to
@WalkerKessler13
for allowing me to go on this journey:
I tried to score over Auburn center Walker Kessler, college basketball’s greatest shot blocker.
Reggie Jackson on KCP's help defense for Nuggets' last stop after Cunningham got by Jackson: “We’ve been together since our Detroit days, so if anybody has seen me get beat and knew I was gonna get beat quickly, (it’s KCP). ... I’m sure he was counting on me to get crossed over."
Nikola Jokic on his dunk with Wembanyama in pursuit: "It was funny."
He said to Wemby after, "If you block one more shot, I'm gonna -- (long pause) -- something."
"But he blocked like four after that, so I didn't do anything about it."
Last year during the NBA Finals, I wrote about Bruce Brown’s unseen pregame routine.
Here’s a short sequel. Brown now has a 2-hour video saved in his phone that he watches a snippet of before games: a compilation of every basket he made as a Denver Nugget
Four years ago, Zep Jasper was an academic redshirt mimicking Auburn guard Jared Harper for College of Charleston’s scout team. He couldn’t travel with the team to March Madness.
Here’s the story of
@Rip_quan5
, his tutor, an NCAA Tournament and 3 degrees:
#Avs
coach Jared Bednar’s thoughts on Kraken’s Jordan Eberle avoiding supplemental discipline from NHL after boarding Andrew Cogliano in Game 6: “I don’t know. I can’t figure it out anymore. So I don’t even try.”
Bednar said Cogliano is feeling good.
"I was grateful (Wendell Green) was able to come back," Bruce Pearl said. "Based on his pain and based on his reaction, I thought, 'Man, knee. That's it.'"
"That might've been the biggest win of the night, when Wendell came out of the training room."
My phone camera missed the main portion of it, but Nikola Jokic received a big applause from the fans in Washington as he walked off.
42-12-8, a steal and three blocks, no turnovers
Last year, it was Bruce Brown. This year, Denver’s challenge will be keeping Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who league sources expect will decline his $15.4m player option.
KCP tells
@denverpost
he hasn’t made a decision yet, is keeping his focus on a 3rd ring
The Nuggets starting unit of Jamal Murray, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon and Nikola Jokic played 958 minutes in the regular season, 159 minutes more than any other 5-man lineup. That’s more playing time than any 5-man lineup in the last six seasons.
Previewing Auburn, Arkansas HC Eric Musselman was asked about how excited he is to have the opportunity to beat a No. 1 team: “When you look at their roster, I don’t know if you get really excited.”
Now that we all have way too much time on our hands, spent hours on zoom making this with
