thanks for all the responses! the consensus is that if a future game like Planetside 2 goes down, developers will be required to release dedicated server binaries for private hosting, and they'd need to bake this requirement into their architecture strategy from the start.
i feel so dumb for not being able to fully grasp this StopKillingGames stuff. What does an offline end-of-life plan for a game like Planetside 2 actually look like?
