<π§΅> CSS Selector Performance. Itβs something that most people tell you not to worry about. But sufficiently bad selectors on a sufficiently large DOM can have a real impact on the user experience, and even on INP.

For those using WASM via Emscripten... Don't sleep on enabling MODULARIZE output and ESM. Finally got a team to make this change in today after a year of suggesting it and saw a 38% reduction in JS output size.

LeetCode is the equivalent of SATs for programmers. No correlation with real skills + ability, is mastered by memorization & favors those who are time rich over those who aren't Managers! It's not a good way to hire people. It's a lazy interviewing process that benefits no one.

Anyone know the most convenient way to checkout an end user to pay for an AWS Marketplace backed API product? I want to pass on the proceeds 100% to the Marketplace vendor but provide a better UX around sign up and token access. I want to keep no revenue in my AWS account.

"The main reason it isn't documented is that we don't support production builds yet. We will make that more clear and be sure to document production runtime performance once we do." That went super clear from all the buzz, Turbopack is a dev server only right now.

Dear lord the comments in here. Its a landing page! Just write some CSS + HTML and be done with it. You do not need React, Tailwind, Typescript, ESBuild or anything really. Its a damn landing page. At most it should have a <form> on it. I despair at this industry I really do.

The Turbopack announcement is cool & the stats on build times are great. But where's the stats on end user load times? How's the minification support & the bundle splitting? I hope it's great too but it's worryingly absent from the entire site. UX is more important than DX folks.

When reviewing PRs especially in open source projects, remember to also take a look at npm/yarn/pnpm lockfile changes. They can be used to attack the project by introducing malicious dependencies. Like this:

Whoever worked to make Canvas2d filters take SVG filters thank you so much! So much power stems from that little capability and I'm sure most folks don't even know it's possible. Saved me so much time.

We need to get past the self-aggrandizing Big Tech story of evil sorcerers "addicting" us to their services and focus in on the real problem: Big Tech took everyone we love hostage inside their walled gardens. We need to smash those walls! https://t.co/4nJz6JAQPE 36/

I β€οΈ that more web dev teams are getting onboard with increased testing. But let's not turn it into pointless work. It's not about hitting every line, sure do it if you can. But don't make it so you have to rewrite your test every time you change your code, that's not the point!

100% test coverage is all well and good but it's not the goal! Stable, robust, fast, repeatable tests that provide a high degree of confidence in the tested code AND allow for efficient refactoring and modification of the code under test with that same confidence is the goal.

I make (and have made) tons of projects with web components and work with 100s of devs at Adobe who build even more projects with web components. Ask me anything!

Anyone made a Microsoft Teams meeting plugin that counts up the dollar figure of the time spent in the meeting by all present on the call? Almost serious.
