Finally, Niko Schiff, a luminary in the field of consciousness and neuromod, set the room ablaze with his talk about CL-DBS after TBI, showing tract-specific effects, EEG modulation, and optimism for a phase-2 trial!

I spoke about how we're incorporating EEG, DTI, and fMRI into how we think about and care for TBI at @Sunnybrook , and some hot-off-the-press results in using FUS to treat disorders of consciousness

Sdrjan (Serge) Sumarac highlighted work from him, Artur Vetkas @CA1CA2CA3CA4, @lukamneuro on a novel finding, of how stimulation may influence vascular reactivity - opening a whole new line of inquiry in the field.

Clement Hamani - a personal mentor and friend - showed how he's studying TBI in his basic science lab, and using DBS to rescue memory deficits (and also treating PTSD)

@DrMDCusimano brought his extensive expertise in TBI, injecting thoughtful questions and and insightful suggestions. @DrTejasSankar elevated discussions in his role as both neurosurgeon and editor of the @JournalCJNS

A longtime hero of mine - Adrian Owen - presented his incredibly work on uncovering covert consciousness, and some exciting next steps with using FNIRS in acute/subacute settings, and even communicating with overwise unresponsvie patients.

Nathan Churchill walked us through his and Tom Schweizer's extensive work on resting-state fMRI in TBI, highlighting a global connectivity metric which seems to inversely scale with symptoms.

@MattBurkeMD highlighted the complex interplay between TBI, PTSD, FND, and the shared neurocircuitry underpinning them, then moving on to presenting exciting result from neurocircuitry-targeted rTMS in post-concussion

@ManleyTBI got the entire room excited about the future of improving TBI care. He emphasized the importance of moving beyond mild/mod/severe TBI labels, and adopting the CBI-M classification to lean into the complexity of this condition.

@bradmacintosh wow'ed us with an automated segmentation software he's developing to detect even small hemorrhages, and slight changes in ventricular calibre, to predict evolution of TBI and changes in ICP.

Next we heard from Francois Mathieu, who showed us all of the innovative ways he's personalizing acute care of TBI patients - including optiziming CPP targets tissue O2 levels.

The meeting began with a masterful talk by @armaan_km where he shared a new prediction tool for estimating likelihood of returning home after TBI I intend to start using regularly.

It was a privilege to chair a symposium on TBI and Neuromodulation with the generous support from @GairdnerAwards and @Sunnybrook's Tory Trauma Program, and @DrNirLipsman our division head.
