Great atmosphere and community spirit at Luton’s Desi Festival this afternoon. The rain didn’t diminish the warmth and enthusiasm. I spoke with a lion and with many residents, festival organisers, stall holders, @bedspolice officers and @lutoncouncil councillors.

Charities, community groups, faith groups and social activists have critical roles in building a safer and fairer Bedfordshire. I want to hear their views and involve them in decision making. My grants programme is designed to enable us to support them to work with and advocate.
I welcome the government’s Civil Society Covenant. It recognises the importance of social action. It respects the independence of charities and community organisations, and their right to campaign. These principles underpin my approach and policies.
