[THREAD] Ok folks, I have been in Chile 🇨🇱 and Santiago for some time now, thought I'd do a thread on the city/country as it flew under the radar in LATAM Twitter. Just my personal take;

The food is also average. They have very little gastronomy of their own and the copycats of Peruvian and Mexican restaurants were not great.
People are pretty cold. Different from other latinos. Seem to have a complex of superiority. Just my sensation.

Sorry for getting political, but I need to address the elephant in the room; people are so left leaning and woke. You can almost feel it. People are overly tattooed, slogans of anarchism and communism everywhere, climate change, feminism, patriarchy, you name it.

This might be my most controversial take; On AVERAGE, Chileans are the most beautiful women I've seen on the continent. I am NOT saying they have the hottest women, but they are on average the prettiest. Might be my preference but that castiza with dark hair just does it for me.

The accent is very thick pooo, it wasn't as horrible as people warned me for, I personally find caribbeans to be much worse, but Chilean Spanish definitely has a strong touch to it and not the easiest to practice.

Now the PROS+: The country is super well organized and CLEAN. Felt like a 1st world country in most places. Modern city, transportation, they use cards to pay almost everywhere, cash is barely used, public transportation is on time, feels safe, less of that latino nonchalance.

The nightlife sucks. It's supposed to be summer, and you can hardly find any big venues, there's no action. The clubs in the center of Santiago weren't impressive at all. It's not as bad as Canada, but definitely way below Colombia, Mexico and other LATAM destinations.

Probably amongst the best countries in the world for nature. At the North, at the South, Patagonia, the hiking trails, there is just so much to do and explore. I would eventually come back with my girlfriend and spend a whole month doing so.

If you suck at Spanish, they are the best of the continent in English. As I said it's well organized and easy to travel around. It would probably be one of the easiest country to explore first as a gringo. But do it for the nature. Santiago can be done within 3 days.

I'll start with the CONS - : 1st, we are so insanely far from civilization. Like they say here, it's literally "al fin del mundo", at the end of the world. 15 hour flight from Europe, 11 hours from North America, a nightmare. Even Peru the northern neighbour is a 4 hour flight.

So I would never establish myself here or even make it a recurrent place to see. It falls behind as a 2nd tier destination IMO, especially for a young man. You can have more fun, eat better and enjoy life more elsewhere. Only top perk is the nature and darkhaired chicas.

So for logistics reason, I would never seriously consider living here.
Also, being in the southern hemisphere, it's currently summertime and it's super hot, 33-35 degrees C everyday. Depends if you like really hot weather or not.

In Argentina it is more extreme and emotional, like in the rest of the continent. In Chile it’s rationalized, institutionalized and firmly implemented.

Yes, and not even in the same category. Argentina is far more enjoyable in almost every aspect. Chileans can only dream of having a city as spectacular as Buenos Aires. but hey, I’ll get stormed by Chileans saying that I’m a fascist and that I haven’t experienced x and y.

So that was all folks, I am now in another country and this experience motivated me to write other threads about all the other fantastic places I visited. That will be my last post for Chile which frankly, got way more attention than it deserved and that I intented to. Un abrazo

Depends if it’s direct (masculine) or indirect (feminine). Last week I was ordering at a bar and a girl next to me randomly gets close, ours arms touch. That’s not random at all. From the first eye contact I knew it was on. I think she “approached” me but not a red flag imo.

I get that a lot, and it’s probably true, but in a country with a rich and rooted gastronomy (Mexico, Peru, Morocco, Italy, etc.) you don’t need to go so deeply to have an insane culinary experience. Sorry 🤷🏻♂️

Santiago has to be one of the most boring cities I visited and trust me, I had my fair share of it. I think we can all agree to not spend over a day there and rather explore the rest of Chile, which is an absolutely amazing experience 🇨🇱❤️

Now about the tattoos, I guess what surprised me was rather how widespread, vulgar and childish they were. Grown ass adults wearing a 6 year old canva on their very skin, ruining their temple. I don't know what's up with the culture there, but they catch your eye immediately.

As soon as I could, I left it to go to Viña del Mar and Patagonia which, granted, were much better and fun to explore. As I mentioned, Patagonia has to be a top3 places I visited for nature, alongside with New Zealand and the Banff region;
