300 million years ago in Arkansas, oceanic rock was pushed up when continents collided hot silica rich waters drained down the fractures forming these ice clear quartz crystals, made accessible when the mountains began to erode πŸ“Ή Rocksforthespirit https://t.co/muT78ewnLh

@sos_bangor_uni Prince Madog's CTD rosette stopping for its near-surface Niskin water sample on Conwy Bay about an hour before high water. How deep did it go? Reply with your best guess!

The sun rises at 5pm in July - you can tell I can hardly open my eyes 🀣. We thank Hartlepool-based JDR Cables for supplying us with a real cable for our experiment on the seabed: our natural laboratory for @BangorGeosci just offshore @BangorUni, using our fabulous #RVPrinceMadog

Here's a reminder if you'd be interested in studying the climate of the Archean with links to the climate of exoplanets and stuff, under the scope of @LeverhulmeTrust grant with @green_mattias, @BangorUni, @NASAGoddard, @IdlLuiz, @FC_UL, @exoclimatology:

Quiz: Two sediment gravity flows carrying 17 volume% bentonite (smectite) clay. One with 4 vol% fine sand added, on without the sand. Which is the flow with sand? Scale on flume wall is in feet. Winner gets Welsh cakes next time we meet. @Sed_Meg is not allowed to compete :-)

We have some funding to study tidal rocks, aiming to relate sedimentary structures to tidal range, and wondering where the best rocks are in the UK. Pembrokeshire might be an option, but not sure exactly where. Other places would be most welcome as well. @brit_seds @sedimentology
