With positive progress and a growing recognition that there is a sufficient basis and common ground to start negotiations on an instrument on autonomous weapons systems, it is essential that states show the courage and political will that will be needed in 2026 to make this move.

States could launch negotiations on an #AutonomousWeapons instrument at the November 2026 #CCWUN Review Conference. While the CCW has seen issues in reaching consensus and efforts to undermine its work, states must withstand these challenges to achieve an urgently needed treaty.
