Thankful to the Florida Coaches Coalition for leading the way in striving to increase coach pay in Florida. Importantly, they recognize the need to align coach pay with increased coach training. Excited to see what the near future holds.

I know coaches getting paid less than $500 to coach their sport. At minimum wage, which is currently $13 an hour, that coach could only work 38 hours over 4 months (not including off-season/summer/work at home). That's just over 3 hours a week.

Talking to a talented volleyball coach today. "My mom coaches the high school team. She gets $1000. She spends more than that on the team. Why would I want to be a high school coach when I can make so much more with private lessons?" Hard to disagree.

Things that make you go 🤔. Coach calls me who coached in FL 25 years ago. Wants to return. Coaching cert expired. Needs a renewal but can't get get it because original cert expired. Only option is a coaching endorsement from Dept of Education, which isn't offered in FL. #stuck.
