Interesting stat: In the 10 summers 1989-1999, #Adelaide (Kent Town) had 17 days of 40°C or more. In the last 10 summers, #Adelaide has had 60 days of 40°C or more, and this summer is not over yet! Temps expected to reach 40+°C again for the #AustraliaDay long weekend.

Yes @BOM_Qld WA did take the Australian Dec Max Temp record off you with Eucla reaching 49.7°C at 12:23pm today. This was also the hottest day on record for Eucla. However, this crown was only held for < 2 hrs before Nullarbor in @BOM_SA took it off our hands with 49.8°C.

There was an unusual sight on the satellite imagery this morning over the waters of the Great Australian Bight. Those faint, light blue swirls off the coast of #SouthAustralia are thought to be a bloom of phytoplankton called Coccolithophorids.

Some rain fell across SA overnight including 19 mm at Mobella in the NW of the State. A further 4.8 mm at Parndana on #KangarooIsland taking the total to 8 mm in the last 30 hours. In the #Adelaide metro 2-5 mm fell with around 2-4 mm over the #CudleeCreek fire ground.

Let the record show Adelaide has already exceeded its February average rainfall with 27.2 mm sitting in the rain gauge. Adding this to January's rainfall of 26.2 mm, gives us 53.4 mm more than for the same time last year.

RECORDS: Stenhouse Bay has easily surpassed its previous record of 44.0C (on 16 Jan & and 2 Feb 2014), and is now 45.6C. Adelaide Airport is also a record at 44.3C (previous record 44.1C 4th Jan 2013). Roseworthy is at 46.9 (prev record 46.7 on 28 Jan 2009).

With no rainfall forecast for #Adelaide until 9 am Tuesday it will be the DRIEST start to the year ON RECORD, with only 17.8 mm so far this year. Previous driest was in 1888 with 19.2 mm. Average January to end of April is 108.3 mm. Wet weather to start Tuesday night in Adelaide.

A exceptionally humid airmass moving into SA will trigger large areas of potentially severe thunderstorms in the north this afternoon and over most areas Friday. Heavy rainfall leading to localised flash flooding and damaging winds are the greatest risks.

With 1.6mm falling in Adelaide (West Tce) overnight our year-to-date rainfall is now 16.2mm which is less than a quarter of the average for this time of year! Comparing this to other years, here's hoping for a wet May like 1851 which ended up being the wettest year on record.

It feels like spring has sprung one day early in #Adelaide today, with a top temperature of 22.1°C recorded at 2pm. It is the warmest day since the 11th of June. 🌤️ 🌡️ More 20°C days coming up this week too.

Shallow change visible on the Doppler Radar (blue line heading NE) has just gone through Noarlunga with an initial drop in temperature. The change will track northwards across #Adelaide but the more significant drop in temp will come in the next hour or two.

With 57 mm so far in #Adelaide we have now cracked 800 mm. It puts our annual rainfall into 2nd on the all time list behind 883 mm in 1992.

A wet end to the week expected for #SouthAustralia . Four day rainfall totals: localised falls of 60–100 mm are possible with thunderstorms in the pastoral districts, and areas of 30–60 mm. More generally for SA: 10-30 mm expected, apart from the SE where 2-10 mm is forecast.
