Mount Rainier looked stunning today as we rode the Bainbridge ferry. This sleeping volcano has been in the news lately as, over the past few days, a large swarm of earthquakes (~400) has been detected there. Not a cause for concern, apparently, but very interesting.

I've been sitting out on the balcony in the sunshine with my hummingbird friends 😀 They were sitting on branches about 3m from me. Such a nice experience.

Here's a nice scene especially for @ripperriver and anyone else who enjoys mucking about in boats. Although I'm not a boating type person, I must admit that sailing on the Salish Sea amongst the beautiful San Juan Islands would be a lovely way to spend time.

A hummingbird in my son's backyard not long ago. So cool to be able to take photos of these thumb-sized birds from the balcony. Redmond, Washington.

The rhinoceros auklet (Cerorhinca monocerata) is a close relative of puffins and, indeed, we found them hanging around with tufted puffins at Smith Island in the San Juan Islands.

"Hey! Hey guys! Any room up there for me?".Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) are the largest species of sea lion and are listed as near-threatened. Sinclair buoy, San Juan Islands.

Before we left on our cruise out of Bellingham, we watched this gull attempt to swallow this sea star - without luck. We had to get on the boat so couldn't stay to see the outcome. Can anyone ID the sea star? My research suggests a spiny red star (Hippasteria phrygiana). #seastar

Nice to see this bald eagle take off from Smith Island and fly over our boat yesterday. And I'd like to mention how tricky it is to get shots like this with both the boat and the bird moving 😄

There are three extant species of puffin: Atlantic, horned and tufted. The birds seen at Smith Island in the San Juan Islands are tufted puffins. One solitary horned puffin is occasionally seen there but we didn't get lucky. Still, happy to get the 'money shot' with the fish 😀

Two cousins that I haven't had any contact with for years have just emailed me separately within the last 24 hours (with no connection between the two emails/issues). Weird.
