I had a really good conversation with @mgeist about a part of #BillC2 that is not getting enough attention. Part 15 would mandate standards, technologies and techniques for surveillance well beyond traditional telcos. And much of what the gov't mandates will be secret.

A court order is forcing OpenAI to store every consumer ChatGPT message—even ones users chose to delete. That’s a massive privacy violation. EFF is urging the court to reverse course.

Careful where you look. Around any corner may loom the Face Stealer, an arachnid mimic that captures your likeness. Everywhere you go people recoil, convinced you’re something monstrous. Survival means adapting to a world where your face is a lure for the horror that claimed it.

This thread.
So much techno-utopianism about AI, particularly from @InstituteGC, in recent months. Even the tiniest amount of experience of delivering digital/data/AI systems in the public sector would reveal it's a bit more complicated than that. 🧵 Ten challenges that need to be tackled

This harmful Bill is apparently going to a vote this week and may well pass. It'll age-gate your streaming services, search engines, social media while destroying online privacy.
One significant problem with #BillS210 (of many) is in the key definition that the whole internet age verification bill is built upon. Just out on my YouTube channel:

Not a good look for one of the biggest data collectors in the world to have no chief privacy officer. Kind of flabbergasted.
🚨 SCOOP 🚨 Google's chief privacy officer is out after 13 years at the company. Google is also retiring the role. Matthew Bye, Google’s head of competition law, is also gone after 15 years. Huge exec departures during turbulent times. https://t.co/m7OLS0pcO3
