Not only do wetland ecosystems support a host of animal and plant life - but they are critically important for the survival of humans too. If we protect wetlands, we also protect our planet and ourselves! #WetlandConservation #WetlandsMatter

Peatlands are often wet, gloomy, and inaccessible - but they're beautiful πŸ’š And they're the world's biggest carbon store, locking up more carbon than all the world's forests. Going #peatfree means we leave the carbon in the ground, and see more of this ✨ πŸ“Έ Richard Lindsay

Just been taking a quick peek at the #Sphagnum (and other bog plants) at our mini #Peatland at Cliffe Castle. Great to see the plants settling in to a tiny fragment of the #GreatNorthBog in an accessible location.

🌍 Happy World Wetlands Day! 🌿 Wetlands are vital ecosystems that support biodiversity, protect against floods & help combat climate change. Wetland habitats take many forms, from upland peat bogs through to valley mires, floodplain meadows and vast reedbeds. πŸ“Έ Nick Upton

A big #WorldWetlandsDay shout out to the magic of peat bogs. At Wild Haweswater, we’ve re-wet 200ha of peat bogs which means they: βœ… Absorb carbon βœ… Decrease flooding downstream by slowing the flow of water βœ… Improve drinking water βœ… Increase biodiversity

Disappointed about the lack of progress on a horticultural peat ban? Same... In the meantime, we'd like to see clear labelling on products that used peat in the supply chain. Please help us get 5,000 signatures on this open letter to retailers by 31 Jan: https://t.co/TdYjoaIXmv

We've stared work on a small area of deep peat that is easily visible from the road. This area is pretty wet, with lots of bare peat. The aim is to revegetate it, protecting the peat from erosion and encouraging more peat to form in the future πŸ“· #isleofman

(1/2) One of the techniques our partner @moorsforfuture use to restore damaged moorland is reprofiling. πŸ˜€ They use diggers to excavate the steep sides of eroded gullies, softening the angle of the slope so that new vegetation can be successfully added there. 🌱
