Get out on the last day of #BigButterflyCount. Gatekeeper was top of the charts in Norfolk last year will it retain the No1 spot in 2025?

A brief update from our county recorder, it looks like a good year for Purple Emperor, Swallowtail, Meadow Brown & Gatekeeper. Clouded Yellows are showing in good numbers but not many reports of Purple or White-letter Hairstreaks. #savebutterflies

Marbled Whites have been reported from the south of the county in recent weeks. It however it is not a member of the white family, its closest relative is Speckled Wood. #savebutterflies

We returned to Mousehold Allotments last week with our moth traps. We identified 138 moths of 39 species. Several Tree-lichen Beauty specimens caught the eye. #mothsmatter 📷 Mike Gasson BC

We visited Grange Farm Lessingham a few days ago where this smallholding is farmed with wildlife very much in mind. Some great butterfly habitat yielded 10 species on an overcast morning. #savebutterflies

Can you help Norfolk climb the leader board and more importantly provide valuable data about the fortunes of our counties butterflies & moths. #BigButterflyCount.
Which county will be crowned citizen science champions? 🏆. Hampshire are currently in the lead with an impressive 2,316 counts submitted so far, but Devon are hot on their heels!. Even the scores by getting out for the #BigButterflyCount 👉

Standing watching for 15 minutes #bigbutterflycount you notice many other things birds, bees and maybe a ladybird landing on your hand. Sometimes it might even be a 1st for your garden like this Silver-washed Fritillary yesterday.

Thank you for sharing.
Hey! We counted 27 butterflies at Foxley Wood #Norfolk using the Big Butterfly Count app & I thought you'd be interested! Also saw lots of Silver-washed fritillary and an unknown moth. Sadly no White Admirals on this visit #BigButterflyCount.@BC_Norfolk
