As a principal investigator or co-principal investigator on several grant-funded research projects, Orona collaborates with the Arthur Vining Davis and John Templeton Foundations, as well as the University of Tübingen, to study the effects of thinking disposition.

Dr. Orona’s interdisciplinary research integrates statistics and measurement with the study of college-age learners’ cognitive and social growth–their formative development–and how that is achieved through a wide breadth of coursework during their college years.

Professor Gabe Avakian Orona has joined the Lynch School’s Department of Formative Education as an Assistant Professor!

She focuses on the experiences of Black, Latinx, and AfroLatinx students and teachers through learning and teaching about race, racism, and the racialization of communities of color in U.S. and world history.

Her research explores how race and ethnicity shape the way social studies and history are taught, with the goal of promoting more inclusive teaching that reflects students’ intersecting identities.
