A neighbour applied firstaid, & SARGENT was transported to #VGH. He gave a detailed description, then picked Leong Chung from a mugshot book. Sadly, surgeons couldn’t stop the bleeding & SARGENT died #OTD, 10NOV, aged 25. Chung was arrested in #yyj, but found not guilty. 2/3

Early on 05NOV1927, @VancouverPD Cst Ernest SARGENT was walking a beat when he asked a male what he was doing. The male mumbled, drew a gun and shot SARGENT. Despite his wounds, SARGENT drew his gun and fired 6 shots. SARGENT staggered to a police callbox and rang for help. 1/3

#OTD in 2017 a tragic series of events unfolded in #Abbotsford. @AbbyPoliceDept Cst John DAVIDSON responded to a report from a car dealership that a car stolen 2days prior, was parked at a mall. As witnesses watched, the suspect returned to the car. When confronted, he pulled 1/3

WILLIAMS questioned the uncooperative suspect. Standing 3’ from each other, both drew their guns & fired. WILLIAMS’ gun malfunctioned; the suspect’s did not. Shot, WILLIAMS ran 40yards towards his house and his wife before falling dead. The suspect calmly mounted up and 2/3

#OTD 1907, #BCProvincialPolice S/Cst Robert (Bob) WILLIAMS was also the ferryman at #LittleFort. A warrant arrived, to arrest a horse thief travelling in the area. WILLIAMS saw the suspect, also named Williams, arrive at the ferry the next night. With his gun in his pocket, 1/3

#OTD 1974 @DeltaPD S/Sgt Ronald Edward McKAY & other officers, following a disturbance at #Tsawwassen Shell, attended the home of Ellery Long. As McKAY knew Long, he went to the door on his own. Long opened the door with a sawed-off shotgun, & as they spoke, shot McKAY in the 1/3

Still alive when the ambulance arrived moments later, he died whilst enroute hospital. A single man, Cst John Lindsay McMENOMY was born & buried in #Inkerman, ONT. He served with #DominionPolice before joining #VancouverPolice. #LODD #EOW #HonourThe135 #NeverForget #BCLEM 3/3

Instead, all streetlights on the block went out. McMENOMY immediately warned 2 small boys standing nearby. In the dark he didn’t see that a live electrical wire had broken and was hanging down. As he reached, metal buttons on his tunic contacted the wire, electrocuting him. 2/3

#OTD 1913, @VancouverPD Cst John Lindsay McMENOMY was called to W 8th & Cypress in #Kitsilano, where a shortcircuit caused an arc-style streetlamp to sputter, and the "cut-out" box to flame. He gently shook the halyard rope, trying to seat the lamp and stop the shortcircuit. 1/3

Cst WILLIAM, appointed in #BC under "Indian Act of 1876 provisions" died while bravely executing his duties. While his origins remain unknown, his service to #Secwepemc (#Shuswap) Nation is clear. #LODD #EOW #HonourThe135 #BCLEM #NeverForget 4/4

Info indicates WILLIAM & McLean were possibly related, and they briefly conversed through a closed door. McLean then fired a shot, killing WILLIAM. Despite expected to die, OXIME survived. McLean was later shot & killed by the community. 3/4

He was also related to the “Wild McLeans" who’d previously murdered a constable. This night, McLean, intoxicated and combative, fired and gravely wounded OXIME. He fled but was tracked to a residence by WILLIAM. 2/4

On 30OCT1887 Constable WILLIAM, appointed within #BC under the "Indian Act of 1976 provisions", died while bravely executing his duties. Indian Csts WILLIAM & OXIME attempted to arrest an Indigenous man, Alex McLean. He & his relatives were terrorising the #Kamloops area. 1/4
