When a beloved student drops by at schedule walk-through to bring goodies for me and MY NEW STUDENTS. 🥲 As teachers we get to meet some really incredible humans! This one is one of the most empathetic people I know.

This…. Read it again… and then let it sink in! Children don’t have an inborn knowledge of how to react to failure, resolve conflict, or regulate their emotions. We have to teach these skills. Model these skills. Encourage these skills. Let’s do better for them. ❤️

Our Ss desperately need explicit instruction & practice w/ Executive Functioning Skills to help the awareness that SEL is bringing in order to strengthen the whole child & self-efficacy. Why Executive Function is the Bridge Between SEL & Academic Success

Getting my summer reading started early! I read (&take notes/highlight) when my Ss are reading, so they can see what it looks like. When I get off track & have to reread, then I verbalize that at the timer, so they know I do that too. Best tool is when they see, “Me too!” 😁

We are reading The Giver, & my Ss highlighted their own character traits and emotions & then Jonas’. I can look at self-awareness and reading comprehension all at once! WIN! Discussions helped extend our learning.

Teachers, I'm done with draft 1 of I Survived 22 & want to share chapters 1-2 with students. I'll choose two classes/schools for 30-minute zooms. Eager to share, get feedback, and discuss writing with your young critics! Best for grades 3-8. RT to enter. I will notify by 2/14.

When Ss haven't completed all of their tasks, how do you respond? T @MonteSyrie invites them to complete one of these "support cycle" notes so that he can meet them where they are. #TeacherPD

Understanding how to set & achieve #goals is an important component of building a variety of #executivefunctioning skills. Having students work towards real & actionable goals helps increase motivation, optimism, & confidence regardless of learning profile or interests. #SEL

We practiced #sittininmystruggle today as we wrote our 1st ACE paragraph over our novel. Struggling is NOT a sign of weakness but of strength BEING BUILT! 💪 (But not to the point of being discouraged - watch their body language to avoid this — breaks can help) #SEL

A quick check in with the sentence starter, “I wish Mrs. Stege knew…” told me a lot about what’s on my kids’ minds. Just like you taught me @MrsRobinson5th A quick reply also let’s them know I’m listening (or at least trying). 💚

Yes, my middle schoolers especially need practice as they navigate the potentially rough years of change facing them. #hormonesaretricky #lovemymiddles
