I am a self-funded #PhD student. That means that I do not get paid for it. After several years applying for funded positions I was not getting anywhere, I was feeling #stupid and #useless. My #mentalhealth was very bad every December when applying to these positions.

Quality over quantity at Clogheen yesterday morning with just 63 birds of 19 species. Highlights were a Yellow-browed Warbler, a Siskin, 3 Redpoll, 3 Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaff (one being a @_BTO control) and a Moorhen @NPWSIreland @BirdWatchIE

Fantastic recovery of one of this year’s Chough nestlings. Ringed at Ballybranigan, East Cork, ‘SIT’ was seen yesterday 72km east near Tramore in Waterford. The furthest east one of our birds have ventured, but also the biggest juvenile dispersal @NPWSIreland @_BTO @BirdWatchIE

Clogheen Marsh autumn migration monitoring. 2000 swallows came to roost last night, caught 196 plus a Sand Martin. This morning 179 birds caught of 27 species inc 46 warblers - 28 Blackcap, 12 Chiff, 2 Reed + 2 Sedge also 6 Mallard, 50 Chaffinch, Grey Wag + Siskin @NPWSIreland

Ringing campaign in Los Palacios, Sevilla produced a total of 1053 birds from 39 species. Best recapture in my opinion a Sand Martin ringed in the UK or Ireland as a 1, recaptured again somewhere else in the UK or Ireland as 3 and recaptured back here this week. @_BTO #birds

The group have news of a Swallow ringed as a Juvenile August 2024 & retrapped by another ringer in Western Cape, South Africa amazing 6,130 miles away. It was retrapped February 2025
