This is the kind of journalism that India needs instead of disdainful media conclaves where politicians are asked aapko itni energy kahan se milti hai.
“पेट में खाना नहीं, पैरों में चप्पल नहीं और समाज में सम्मान नहीं” बिहार के महादलित ग़रीब से भी ग़रीब हैं 60 साल की लीलावती ने कभी चप्पल नहीं पहनी क्योंकि लड़ाई चप्पल और रोटी के बीच थी ऊंची जाति के लोग खुद थाली में और इन्हें पत्तल में खिलाते हैं Full report is on RedMike YT

Wrong Q: Where is India's Zohran Mamdani? Right Q: Where are the social movements and civil society activism whose agenda setting power creates the platform for progressive leaders in other countries? Had explored the latter question some time back https://t.co/tmjceiStKa

The state of the wrestlers’ protests clarifies the need to look beyond the superficial, celebrity-dependent model of civil society activism
As Bernie Sanders suggested in Guardian today, leadership charisma is only a surface level manifestation (or epiphenomenon) of the underlying stuff that actually moves politics: agenda setting power of political movements. India has had a lot of significant political movements

AKA, the East Asian Model.
Read this book a while back. Using case of China, it shows that a sovereign country with fiat currency faces no money constraint for generating all the resources it needs for productive investment. Only requires a development focused monetary policy & a directed banking system.

The real Pappu has always been the Indian upper middle class. At least the ruling party & their pet media apparatus views them as complete idiots, given the lousy propaganda they consistently serve up.
Detailed report on Haryana women voters allegedly with picture of ‘Brazilian model’. When Indian Express met them, their voter ID has their picture NOT that of any model. And they voted ONLY once with it.

*Correction. Haizhou Huang was not the chairman of the China Development Bank. But he does sit in the MPC at the People's Bank of China so he probably knows the system he writes about. https://t.co/l3KL8zCXPP

What is happening in Bangalore? Hearing many such reports.
there have been multiple instances of dogs being abducted and forcibly relocated from a posh UC neighborhood in bangalore to nearby slums. police won't do shit because the culprits are rich. does naming and shaming on twitter actually work?

Btw there was a book written by SOAS economist Lawrence Saez in 2004 comparing India & China "reform" trajectories in banking sector, where he lauds India proactive privatization plus market solutions & condemns China for being a reform laggard. We follow such prescient expertise

Here people are trained fo fixate over whether RBI cuts repo rate by 25 bps or to throw fits over transfers to Ladli Behna. Anyway recommend the book, also to grasp the leading role local municipal tier plays in organizing development. China's lot more decentralized than India

is more likely due to policy capture by domestic oligarchic interests. The co-author of the book is a fomer chairman of China Development Bank. They show how China generated the bulk of 60 trillion $ of investment over last 4 decades through its (state controlled) banking sector.

Busts a lot of neoliberal myths that keeps countries like India starved of funds needed to meet basic needs of social and physical infrastructure. Smaller countries can blame Western pressure via IMF/World Bank but the lack of political will and developmental stasis in India

This Jairam Ramesh quote is a perfect illustration of the deep imprint Anglo-American political culture has held over Indian political-bureaucratic elites. It grounds their 'vision of power' (as Sheldon Wolin called it) pushing away a whole range of real democratic possibilities.
American culture casts a powerful legitimating shadow over Indian society: from crony capitalists & media lackeys laundering plunder through ‘free market’ dogma to the post 9/11 rationalization of surveillance laws & communal bigotry as ‘national security.’ Mamdani win matters.

Zohran just tipped his hat to Nehru: “A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new -- when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.” The compleat desi!

She’s masquerading as a legal “editor” but does not know the concept of “pro-bono”. Maybe because someone doing something out of good will or belief in a cause is so alien to her lot’s thinking capacity.
Top and Best lawyers of the country appearing for Delhi Riots accused. Client Attorney privilege is paramount but as a journalist, I beg to ask, how are these “sole breadwinners” paying for this beautiful line up ?
