Highly recommend this beautiful 1937 Michael Powell film. Moody atmosphere, stunning photography (who needs drone cameras!), pertinent and profound themes, a Straussian score by Lambert Williamson, plus fiddles and authentic knits. What’s not to like! .

Superb Mendelssohn from Augustin Hadelich tonight at @bbcproms. And the arena really is the best place to listen. Apart from the sticky floor, which creaks loudly whenever anyone tries to unstick a foot. Which is quite a lot. Don’t they ever clean it?.
