@DaveWijk Critical issues arise. A lot has also changed in the last few years. Many of us have full time jobs now, started university or have a family. If something ever changes, we’ll let you know, since we are 99% ready to release it to everyone out of beta.

@DaveWijk jailbroken our main devices, and the fact that the jailbreak community at this moment is the smallest it has ever been, we simply cannot afford the time to keep maintaining Installer and testing it to release it fully. When we do release, we must be available for weeks in case.

@DaveWijk Installer 5.1 is now really in a state where we are happy with the design, the functionality, and apart from a few bugs, the stability. It is a package manager that we ourselves use, and are extremely proud of. However, due our team being extremely small and none of us having.

Just after the APT release, we decided that our UI was not what we wanted. @DaveWijk created a new, native looking UI that he himself mostly implemented. This is the design of Installer 5.1 that we have today, and we believe it is by far the best designed package manager for iOS.

being in a state where they are at today. We were the first to release a modern looking package manager, specifically designed for modern iOS versions, utilising the latest API’s & featuring modern features users wanted. We ignited the call to have a modern alternative.

Dominant package manager, & for good reason. The current team is superb, it is well maintained, and it works fine. Our goal when we started Installer 5 was to have competition to Cydia. We may never prove it, but we are quite positive we have had a direct impact on Sileo & Zebra.

the things Sileo is known for, we were now always in Sileo’s shadows, as Coolstar bundled it with her jailbreaks & even created a forced incompatibility with Saurik products so people were forced to use the Coolstar variants. Now years later, it is clear that Sileo has been the.

Our advantage in terms of already having a product. Eventually Sileo took many of our ideas and even designs (our designer @DennisBednarz left our team to work on Sileo) and released their beta in a decent state to the public. Despite us being the first to do basically all.

Remember that when we released our beta’s, Sileo and Zebra were not yet a thing. (Zebra was at that time a basic project called AUPM, another useless package manager). The user community was extremely excited for our package manager, but our multiple missteps meant we sacrificed.

Eventually due to issues with our own custom implementation of DPKG, we implemented APT. This solved virtually all package management issues, even though pinning remained an issue for a while. We were the first to implement APT in a way that our package manager could run rootless.

which were server based. We are eternally thankful for @CloneVince for always supporting us with anything web & server related. We implemented TweakCompatible, Developer Profiles (like the AppStore), which resulted in a much better UX for the user. Below is the old design

We made another mistake — despite us being a small team, we added a ton of features to Installer. Features that we are proud of, & that the community liked a lot. See: The issue was that our team was too small to reliably maintain these features, many of.

This person also leaked an old version of our source code, teamed up with several of the other people who were working to create Cydia alternatives (including someone trying to create Rock 3.0, despite the fact that Saurik owned that IP).

During that time, we also found ourselves with a team member who was incredibly toxic, who started threatening us, and even sent messages from our Twitter account to other members in the community pretending to be us, trying to ruin our name when we kicked him out.

Eventually, we had to come to terms that DPKG/APT will not be replaced. We then rewrote our package manager to support DPKG, and the first release of Installer which supported Cydia repositories was released.

work together, side by side, with no issues as far as we could detect. These releases were all based on the original Installer 4 source code, which in itself was also quite a feat. Much of the code was written for iPhoneOS 2, some of it even for iPhoneOS 1, and it worked fine.

Something we are quite proud of, is that with our later .tar beta releases, we created full compatibility & interoperability with Cydia. A package installed in Cydia also appeared as installed in Installer, and visa versa. This solved many dependancy issues & allowed both to.
