Alpabfahrten are annual folk celebrations when the cows return from their summer sojourns in the mountains back into the valleys for winter. In addition to lots of cows and some goats, this involves lots of Alphorns (pictured above) and yodeling, as one might imagine.

Somehow I still find time for occasional breaks. This weekend, I reinforced all Swiss stereotypes and returned to my small town roots to attend the "Entlebucher Alpabfahrt". (1/2)

One of the fun research pieces based on our long experience of building efficient multi-core systems. OS researchers may recognize a bit of Barrelfish in this design, tracing back the roots to when I began my research career!.

Today, Marvin wrote about why you should do full-system simulation when building systems! Even includes a concrete example for how simulating only part of the system can lead you astray.

Oh mighty network: Does anyone have any sources with concrete numbers for the high cost and long development time for custom hardware components? (accelerators, offloads, large SoCs) Lots of research papers bemoan this as a problem, but I so far I have not found concrete numbers.
