People who walked for 2+ hours every day had a 24% lower risk of developing chronic lower back pain than people who walked less than 78 minutes. The study was conducted in Europe, of course. It's not easy to find 11,000 adults in the U.S. who walk even 78 minutes per day.

Mid-January reminder: Goals don’t work unless you review them regularly and track progress. Get organized -- note actions that will get you to your goals, carefully track progress, and set up reminders to review your goals regularly and reflect on what is working and what is not.

We all hate being seen as someone who breaks promises, yet we break promises we make to ourselves. Breaking a promise given to yourself is no better than breaking a promise given to another person, even if no one will know, because you will.

One reason, though not the main one, for people having fewer kids is public perception of large families. Try telling people in New York City that you have 3, 4, or 5 kids, and see how many judgmental comments and insinuations you get. Then try telling a potential employer.

I suspect the U.S. also has the same issue, but perhaps on a smaller scale. I noticed the same positions being advertised for several years. Unfortunately, this is unlikely to be prioritized or solved by regulators in the coming years.

There are states and cities where a family with two full-time working adults cannot afford a two-bedroom apartment in a safe neighborhood with good public schools.
There are currently no states in the U.S. where a full-time worker earning the minimum wage can afford a modest two-bedroom apartment, per the National Low Income Housing Coalition

Reduce your kid's exposure to flame retardants with three simple steps ✅
Since the 1970s, flame retardants have been added to kids’ products. The flammability standards have changed, yet many manufacturers continue to add them to simplify the certification process and lower costs. #flameretardants #quelthy #parenting #parentingtips #nontoxicliving

It's because "most livable" and "happiest" are often based on surveys and rely on people's cultural perception. It might be unacceptable to admit you are not that happy. Yet, many of these cities have high mental illness and low birth rates. https://t.co/oPtukSghZ6

I moved from the US to Copenhagen, the world's most livable city. The language and weather were hard to adapt to, so I left nearly two years later.

I hope they tackle unnecessary screen time in schools next. My child received a laptop from school when she started kindergarten. Now they have at least 2 hrs of daily screen time, AND they turn on the TV during lunchtime in one of the best elementary schools in NJ @RepSherrill

My 3-year-old lost her gloves on the playground, and we bought her new ones. Several days later, my 6-year-old, who had complained that she didn't get new gloves, coincidentally lost her old gloves at school.

A crying baby, especially a newborn, needs comfort. It doesn't know if you are in another room or disappeared from the face of the earth and left them alone to die. I tried CIO with my first child, lasted 10 minutes, and couldn't help but hold my baby in my arms.
What if the “Cry It Out” sleep training (aka extinction-based sleep training) has contributed to mental health issues in young people? In some ways, it’s the most insane thing to do to a child (and is based on incredibly poor science). For centuries, families co-slept without

Worrying and sleep deprivation are two well-known concerns for many parents. Often, one issue can lead to another, creating a vicious cycle for already exhausted parents. One way to help yourself deal with these disturbances is to schedule daily worry time.

Why do insurance companies cover fentanyl-containing epidural anesthesia for vaginal delivery but do not cover doulas for women who prefer drug-free pain relief?

Living in Europe before having kids is a life hack. Gives you a full cultural immersion, extensive travel, valuable international experience, connections, and language skills. No need to forgo unconditional love, leaving a legacy, and a home full of smiles and laughter.
Not having kids is a life hack. I spend my summers in Europe, take cross-country road trips, and disappear off-grid on weekends. The money I’d spend on kids goes to investing, experiences, and freedom. Different priorities. Different definition of rich.
