So where are those shouting “free speech” when the EU claimed that X doesn’t follow EU law now? Is it free speech if my socials are scanned just because I’m travelling to the US for work? It also feels like a huge data protection issue if I have to disclose data about relatives.

Well… greetings from the sovereign country of Germany that decided to align politics on certain topics with neighboring countries some decades ago. The EU is great. Like always with politics there are decisions I don’t like, but the advantages are more than outweighing these.

When European companies do business in the US, they abide by US law. US business in the EU is very profitable and must respect EU law. Simple, clear and hardly disputable.
Rumors swirling that the EU commission will fine X hundreds of millions of dollars for not engaging in censorship. The EU should be supporting free speech not attacking American companies over garbage.
