For those who asked: Yes, this is the photo I used to renew my HKID card when I was 18. The 18-year-old me would never have thought the photo would be publicized globally in an arrest warrant (with a bounty) 8 years later. Note: they widened the photo on the warrant.

Until that day arrives, our anger will have to become our motivation. Every single one of us will have to work incredibly hard. Until we are in every industry and every area and every aspect of society.

This society will have a holistic monitoring mechanism—reporters and citizens can consult and inquire. No corruption is allowed or enabled. Lives are taken seriously no matter rich or poor.

When emergency strikes, the reflexes of the elected would not be to wait for Beijing’s orders or to pose for pictures. They would rush to offer effective crisis management plans and to support first responders. We can vote them out if they were proven to be unfit for their jobs.

The #TaiPoFire has been a tremendously difficult moment for Hong Kongers. It exposed fundamental failures of today’s Hong Kong. Someday in the future, Hong Kongers who truly love our “home kong” will be able to govern Hong Kong after winning a fair and democratic election.

Many would blame bamboo scaffolding for the fire, but the scaffolding stood even after a day of flames. Instead, Hong Kong Police suspected the safety net and water proof canvas used were sub-par, and form boards covering windows may also helped the fire spread.

Rest in peace. I sincerely wish the missing would be found and the injured would be healed. As HKers investigate, deliberate politicizing from pro-Beijing puppets & corruption stand out as potential causes of the deadly fire. The truth must be out. No matter how long it takes.

In a blatant act of transnational repression, the Chinese govt harassed filmmakers (+their families back in China) to stop films from being shown in *the United States* for the inaugural Indie China Film Festival. 2/3 of the films had to be pulled (h/t @Chiangseeta)

Today in #HongKong, holding flowers can land you an arrest. Every June 4th since 2020, the gov’t goes on an annual hunt to erase any memory of the Chinese Tiananmen Massacre. Hong Kongers persist. Including Chow Hang-Tung who is on a hunger strike in prison. Lest we forget. 🕯️
