Enjoyed my conversation with World Vision CEO @EdgarSandovalSr about how funding cuts have impacted one of the top recipients of US foreign aid. Sandoval said WV is the largest charitable distributor of US farming commodities in the world.

My latest @CTmagazine for your weekend read. Whatever happened to all the bused migrants who inundated Chicago? Some of them set out on foot to find a church.
christianitytoday.com
Some pastors say God used busloads of migrants to grow Chicago churches. Mass deportation is reversing that.

An pastor filmed as ICE agents arrested two of his church members. He told the agents that the Iranian couple was fleeing religious persecution. They're asylum-seekers, he said. "It doesn't matter," one of the agents replied. My latest for @CTmagazine

On Tuesday, Iranian asylum-seekers were detained in Los Angeles, adding to the count of church members taken despite lawful status.

Great reporting by @jasgarsd. A Tampa man voted for President Trump at the church pastored by his neighbor and friend. Then, weeks ago, the man learned that the pastor had been arrested by immigration agents.

In one weekend in May, more than a 1,000 immigrants were arrested in Florida. The massive crackdown has Trump supporters asking why their neighbors were detained and must be deported.

A rural farm family in India went into debt to pay a lawyer after their daughter, in college in the US, learned that ICE canceled her student status. Then, a few weeks later, ICE changed its mind. Detail from my latest piece @CTmagazine
christianitytoday.com
The Trump administration terminated the legal status of students at eight evangelical schools, then reversed itself, then warned it may eliminate more.

In February, when the administration announced its agreement to deport migrants to a prison in El Salvador, colleagues asked me if the US was about to engage in state-sponsored trafficking. I had no idea. So I asked around. My report for @CTmagazine
christianitytoday.com
Christian legal experts debate whether Trump’s deportations to a foreign prison cross the line into exploitation.

Once upon a time, Martin Luther begged for seeds for his garden. A Georgia preacher's kid launched clubs that held "kuzdu queen" beauty pageants. My essay for @CTmagazine on how all of this and more shaped our views of sin.

Thorns and thistles may be the Bible’s classic metaphors for evil. But did the biblical writers ever meet kudzu?

If Trump's mass deportations succeed, leaders say they would amount to "a church decline strategy." My report for @CTmagazine

A new study finds Trump's plans to expel undocumented immigrants would potentially impact more than 1 in 20 US evangelicals.

@CTmagazine That comes as arrests of noncriminal migrants climb rapidly. In the middle two weeks of February, ICE swept up 3,721 immigrants with no criminal record—a 334 percent increase over the first two weeks of January.

Two-thirds of Hispanic Protestants voted for Trump. But some pastors in Florida confess privately that they feel betrayed by the president's and the state's harsh immigration policies. My story in @CTmagazine .

My latest on what appears to be the administration's first ICE arrest at a church. The detainee is in country with permission, has a work permit and a court date to consider his family for asylum. He has no criminal record—he was helping start a church.

In Atlanta, immigration agents arrested a Honduran man outside the church he helped plant. Is it an isolated case or the start of a trend?
