Real civics education reform would focus on teaching students about the logistics and mechanics of participation, not on compelling 14-18 year-olds to memorize facts that will only serve to marginally enhance their political knowledge score on a survey.
The civics bill has now passed the House and Senate and is coming to my desk! Thank you for recognizing the importance of civics education and preparing young Iowans to be engaged citizens.

My experience @WartburgCollege was transformational and it helped shape my life as a professor, leader, and citizen. I would do it all over again!

Agree 100%. This problem goes back decades within the discipline (e.g., the Perestroika Movement in the early 2000s, Ricci's (1987) "The Tragedy of Political Science", etc.). And that focus has implications for our curriculum and the graduates we produce at the undergrad level.
I’ve always thought PoliSci suffered a self-image problem. hyper focused on applied stats/computational methods/data science instead of understanding politics. History matters. History renders context. Fancy stats/methods don’t mean squat if you can’t offer meaningful insight.

I'm just glad I'm old enough to remember the 1987 and 1991 Twins!
The Vikings' failure to make the playoffs extended Minnesota's streak without an NFL, NBA, NHL or MLB championship to 32 years, the most (by 10 years!) among U.S. markets with all 4 leagues. Like any Minnesotan, I tried to make the best of it here:

Teaching State Constitutions this week and wondering if there is a developed measure in the political science literature for the ease of amending a state constitution? Any help in identifying one (if it exists) would be greatly appreciated!
