Today I got to hold my degree in my hands! The girl who was told she would never be able to achieve a university degree cause she would always be too sick. Mental illness may have taken years from me but it’s given me so much more. Without it, I wouldn’t have the life I do now 💚

Working on a psychiatric ward can be upsetting, painful, traumatic. We see things others wouldn’t be able to comprehend. We nurse the most vulnerable. Even so, I always wake up smiling knowing I’m making a difference to peoples lives. I love my job❤️

During the first lockdown in 2020 I braved it and started growing my hair out. Spent years cutting and dying it as I hated my natural colour thanks to school bullying. Second pic is the hair growth today, I finally love it and should have listened to my family all along 🧡

HCA tunic came, little different to my TNA one. Sleeves are shorter, more scars will be on show at work. I found myself panicking. Quickly reminded myself that they made me who I am today and the reason I’m doing this job!

Not only is my son autistic, so is my husband! Diagnosed later in life following our sons diagnosis, prior to this we didn’t have any knowledge of autism! Unfortunately for autistic adults there is next to no support - something I’m hoping to change 🙏🏻

I took an apprenticeship route into nursing. Last week received my degree certificate from university, today received my apprenticeship certificate! Many mature students are unable to take the traditional route, apprenticeships are fantastic opportunities with the same outcome!❤️

2022 has been the year our non-verbal child said his first consistent word and sentence AND uses them in context! Every time I hear his little voice say “lets go!” or “go!” my heart melts. Nothing beats it 🥰 Bonus points for the fact he sounds more northern than I do 😂
