If you are told you are bully, especially as a Prof, I really urge that you take the approach of "what can I learn". and move on! We are here to do science. Taking feedback responsibility is a part of being a good team player.

Point 4. While there may be cases where arguing against accusations of bullying may be grounded, in every case I have seen, supporting lab or project mates silently agree, but are conflict adverse.

Point 3. When feedback is rejected by anyone accused of bullying, situations can devolve into a nightmare - literally, relationships break and all participants find the situation extremely stressful which takes away from work productivity.

When someone gives you feedback about your behaviour it is often from a place of strong discomfort, and fear of conflict will be coming up for that person. Try not to be mean to the messenger - doing so will send a strong message that will not build trust or respect.

Point 2. You have to be brave to share what you want someone to do/change, especially when they are in a position of power. As a communicator for another person, you can also be in the wake of someone's anger.

Point 1. Being defensive wasn't helpful. It is work, we typically work in teams, and striving to build teams is a part of our job. Taking criticisms as coming from good intentions, which ultimately improves relationships and the workplace vibe, is the professional interpretation.

They did not argue that the accusor was wrong, they accepted what was said - what needs to change so this can be better for someone else? This is what I learned from what unfolded from the 3 accused who were positive, and the 2 who were defensive and angry.

So you have been accused of being a bully. ? Now what? As a professor, I have witnessed 5 cases recently where a mentor or colleague was accused of harassing and bullying someone else. In 3 cases, accused individuals reflected and responded, what do I need to change?.
