One explanation I can think of is that these "expressions" have side effects: they increment the value. Therefore they're statements. But I'm not sure.

I'm reading "Modern C" by @gustedt and in section 2.4 he says increment operations are statements, which is confusing as increment operations can be evaluated to values. So shouldn't they be expressions instead? #programming
