They were Palestinians who had Jordanian citizenship. If an Italian moved to Jordan and became a citizen they wouldn't stop being Italian. It would be appropriate to refer to them as either. Since the Jordanians revoked the citizenship, they're Palestinians.

The Church also has historically stated that Matthew was the first Gospel written, which we know is not the case thanks to modern biblical and historical research. Mark was the first Gospel written.
It is not in like with the Catholic tradition to be anti-research.
