Honestly, I don’t think it signals much right now.
Signals a (Turkey-backed) Syrian military strike against SDF -now- refusing to dissolve. If the SDF doesn't dissolve, the PKK won't, an unacceptable outcome to Ankara given how much it has invested in PKK's end. At this stage, it's either SDF's dissolution or a Turkish operation.

The PKK says that Nureddin Sofi, one of the top 2 Syrian Kurdish commanders in the PKK, was killed in 2021 by a Turkish air strike. Bahoz Erdal, the other top commander, reportedly is still active, despite multiple Turkish claims (always disputed) that he was killed.
