I had the pleasure of attending the show, this morning. Such a fun take on the beloved text by a talented group of young actors!.

A quick plug for the Fringe: for the next week, the Hopkins School in New Haven is performing a dramatisation of the Latin textbook Ecce Romani, starting today at 10! They'll be very glad to see Latin fans in the audience (& meet them after). Details here

If you've not read it yet and have an interest in papyri, ancient material culture, heritage ethics and practices, or even just true-crime tales, then I'd recommend giving it a look!.

Some of the tricks and lies spun by the charlatans at the heart of this book would seem barely credible if done in fiction, and yet these are all too real. I think my favourite bit was reading Mazza's text-based back-and-forth with a particularly unhinged Turkish dealer. .

A bit late to the party, but coming to the end of a short break here has allowed me to finish 'Stolen Fragments' by Roberta Mazza. This is an astonishing book, combining detective memoir and an indictment of how scholarship has aided and abetted downright criminal enterprises.

The artwork has a classic comic style, and plays well on the variously exoticised images of the Britons offered by the ancient author. While I would always love to see a bit more of Calgacus, I really loved the way the opposing speeches and imagery were presented as pure Tacitus!

I love a good graphic novel, and so I was delighted to be given a copy of this version of Tacitus' Agricola 'en bande dessinée' by Édouard Michel, from the writer himself. This follows an already successful French language version, and is rendered now in Latin!

There seem to be a number of ancient-themed shows taking place in this year's @edinburghfest! One that might appeal to many w/in the Classics community is this humorous take on the beloved Ecce Romani series! . On in the mornings at the start of Aug!.

I was delighted to be elected a Fellow of @RoyalHistSoc! As someone trying to maintain a research profile without being paid for it, it's gratifying to be recognised for contributions to scholarship. I hope this will open new doors for me in my outreach work as much as research.

Home from #CA2025 & reflecting on a great time. Attended every session & could've gone to more on top! Some big discussions about the future of the discipline & reminders of the vitality within Scottish Classics. Dum spiro spero!

Papers done and packing almost complete for #CA2025. Might be packing a couple ancient-themed games in case any delegates find themselves at a loose end on Friday night! . Counts as work, right?! 🤣. (And yes, I'm aware of the Greek script being butchered on the 'Elysium' box!)

Had a great night at @RoyalArmouries with @classicsforall, celebrating our annual Impact Awards. I was proud to celebrate Emma Noble from @stambrosehigh, whose stellar work in growing Classical Studies there is emblematic of the powerful impact teachers can have on their pupils!

Took possession today of some old ledgers relating to the @CAScotia. For being books of lists & payments, they're really beautiful (some v. elegant penmanship!) It has also been interesting seeing the health of national membership of the CAS over 100 yrs ago.

Next stop today: @KirktonholmePS to chat to the P3s about the Romans, and teachers about opportunities for classical subjects at different primary stages.

Early morning drive westwards representing @classicsforall. Visited @WilliamwoodHS, and talked to a wonderful History teacher about introducing Classical Studies. Exciting times ahead to see how we can offer pupils here access to Classics, still an unfortunate rarity in Scotland.
